Lizzie is 90 now so it is amazing that she still does a lot of functions. A real Brit trooper.

I had a wave of dislike when Diana was killed, but the Queen has redeemed herself in my eyes now. But I will never accept Charlie.

My 91yr father in law has dementia and was taken to hospital on Friday night.

Now hes less confused, for the first time hes voiced that he doesnt want to live like this anymore.

So freaking sad. I lucked out and have good inlaws - I hope he phases out a bit so he forgets again.

On the plus side, he refuses to wear a hospital gown and wants his PJs so is walking around the ward in his undies in protest.

I said to my husband, if hes not on a drip then why does it matter if hes wearing PJs. Pick your battles and if he wants his PJs then let him have them.

He should be allowed to wear PJ's? They certainly do at RAH here. Or maybe its because we can no longer afford to provide them (edit: 'them' being gowns) and wash them :(

I wasn't even offered one in Feb and stayed in my street clothes until family brought some in that night.

I really hope Andrew Denton's South Australian campaign for Euthanasia for incurable illness is successful.

We've taken him PJs so its not a matter of the hospital providing them.

"Pick your battles" is something I often tell my husband. Thankfully hubby has learned its best to just agree with father in law than try to argue to get him to remember. Eg, dad in law is obsessed about a torch he gave hubby... about 30yrs ago. Hubby now just says "Ill go get it now for you" and that makes his dad happy.

And then there are the days you come home and there is a 1970's piece of artwork sitting against the garage that he found under the house somewhere and hes returning to us.

Anyone want a black velvet & gold hobbytex naked lady print? :)

The RAH doesn't provide PJ's and I wouldn't expect any hospital to do that. They didn't even offer me a gown even though I was admitted I was still in street clothes. So I thought they probably can't even afford to provide and wash gowns (not pjs).

My father was in a local hospital last year. I found him without a pillow. He was given a rolled up blanket. Apparently the hospital is constantly short of hospital pillows because people nick them!!

Now why would anyone nick a hospital pillow?

When you get too old to drive and travel you then cease to have an ID in the way of a passport or photo on a drivers licence.
We took the olds to the motor vehicle licence place with an original birth certificate and Medicare card to obtain a photo ID. Not too hard but necessary for 2016 and onwards.
We have an ID card which is available from the government shopfronts which means they are easy to get to. It used to be called a proof of age card, for people who didn't have licences to be able to get into clubs, buy alcohol, cigarettes etc. Don't expect that your parents would need the card for that. :)

Ive never paid an airline's voluntary carbon offset. Anyone paid it?

Seems we won't be seeing the return of the NPPP to the MEL lounges this week ... the Victorian power outages were not of sufficient duration to defrost the local stockpile.

You would be amazed. At one hospital I was at a patient was admitted under my care and the staff warned me not to leave anything near her.Apparently they suspected she had been up to no good so after one admission they arranged for the community nurse to visit. She found several hospital pillows, sheets, blankets, gowns and a couple of pairs of crutches.

But I am in full agreement with the principle that people should be allowed some personal things when in hospital.Fortunately in the last few years of my regular working life it was a Private hospital and patients were encouraged to dress in their own clothes etc and were allowed beer or wine with meals if the doctor agreed. This doctor usually did.

Hmm if they can dress in street clothes and drink alcohol with meals do they really need to be in hospital?

I tried that with my wife last week for her birthday and she refused. Maybe she would have accepted the offer if the cash was enough to buy 5 baht of Gold. ;)

I think with what your wife has been through in the last few weeks she should have got a bloody good birthday present !

Reading a Smart Things Kids say blog

"My 2-year-old and I are watching a plane fly overhead. I say, “I wonder where that plane is going?” The 2-year-old (2!) responds, “To an airport.” Duh.

Also, the US dollar slipped against a basket of currencies after data showed that US employment growth unexpectedly slowed for a third month in September and the jobless rate rose. Nonfarm payrolls rose 156,000, less than August's 167,000 gain, the Labor Department said.

This is good news for a potential quarter quarter per cent interest rate drop here . I was hoping November. Also decreases the chance of the increase in the USA that the professionals have been forecasting for a while. Who really knows hey ?
Winx for the Cox plate may be the only certainty.

That's what the internet is for. Twenty minutes looking at Amazon or eBay should yield something suitable. Or Tiffany.com. :) She deserves a push present too. ;)
