I think I'm done with The Walking Dead.

Tonight's episode was like a ******* ISIS training video, there's nothing entertaining about it.

 You're not wrong! I had to watch 'Talking Dead' after just to come back to reality. The after show certainly helped to take the edge off.

It's our anniversary today. The all important cotton milestone. But in all the stress of getting mum's house sold I haven't had any time or money to get MrsGM the presents I had hoped to get. And she went and organised a surprise overnight stay at a secret location. I'm going to have to work hard to make it up to her.
Reminds me of all those years ago with our paper wedding anniversary. She wasn't all that impressed when I bought her the Herald-Sun.

My husband and I, well really its me, talk about upgrading my engagement ring but in the meantime we keep having holidays.

I almost did it once, we went to the store and picked out the stone but when it came down to it, I booked a trip to Nth Sulawesi instead. I said to hubby that I would hate one day to be without him and look at the diamond ring and think, we could have done things together instead with that money.

But one day hes going to be in for a big shock when I do commit to an diamond upgrade.

I've never thought of updating my engagement ring because well, it's my engagement ring. We had both just started work so it is very simple and just a tiny Diamond but that is what it is.

I love sapphires though and would love to buy a sapphire bracelet from either Sri Lanka or Dubai next April. Already have a gorgeous sapphire ring from Sri Lanka though.

I have a story. My oldest son was born in Sri Lanka. He and MrP returned there on his 21st birthday and bought me the ring. Zoom ahead 6 years and was going to family wedding. Decided to get all rings checked at a very reputable and well known manufacturing jeweller in Adelaide. They told me I had to repair the SL ring or I would lose the sapphire. Paid the $300 as I told them I would be so upset if I lost the stone.

Attended the wedding in Perth 2 weeks later. Happened to look down and to my horror saw the stone had gone. I rang the jewellery store in tears. And anger. Told me to come in Monday to sort out. I wore the ring back to Adelaide as I didn't want to lose the setting.

Monday and thankfully MrP came with me. Still dreadfully upset. Explained I had worn the ring continuously every day for 6 years without incident but 3 weeks after their repair work I lost the stone. He looked at the setting and said it was damaged. Ah yeah, wearing a setting without the stone will do that. We were in the back office with another guy further away tapping on the computer. First jeweller continued to argue with me saying it was my fault. MrP rose to the fore and said we would be happy to contest in court and get expert evidence. And report the issue to the relevant professional body. Computer guy stopped tapping and took first jeweller out of the room.

They came back and offered to get their best sapphires and I could choose which replacement stone. My son and I chose it together. I now have a very valuable sapphire in the ring as it was independently valued. Still not the same. But it is a beautiful stone.

I've never understood the concept of "upgrading" an engagement ring; to me its the original that holds the sentiment..

Mrsdrron certainly believes in upgrading rings. She has done it twice!
The sentiment comes in as her original ring is now our daughter in laws engagement ring.

Im not sentimental about it.

The wedding ring I wear isnt the original as this one has diamonds in it and Im on my 2nd eternity ring as this one has more/bigger diamonds.

If I do upgrade my engagement ring, I think I will pass this one to my only niece because the stone is high quality but who knows until then.

My original wedding ring I wear when we travel or scuba dive as its a plain gold band.

But in the meantime, there are more holidays to be had and as hubby says, "Im building you a new house" (maybe KDR in 18mths time) so I can wait.

Ah. Well given the simplicity of mine I don't think that would wash with any future brides in the family.

Mum lost her stone so she did upgrade and which I now have but I don't wear it. Way too big for me.

The sentiment thing. MrP still ribs me about my response to 'the question' forty years later. He asked and I said 'you're kidding'. I was a very gauche 21 year old.

If my kids had said they were getting engaged at 21 we would have shipped them overseas on a one way ticket! Sigh. Oldest is now 31 and single but with a partner. I clearly need not have worried.

Ha! I feel the same way, Ive said to hubby that if we had kids that wanted to marry at 18-21yrs, they would be shipped off on a Contiki tour and I'll happily pay for it.

Isnt there only one eternity so only need for one eternity ring?

Im sure my husband feels being married to me is longer than one eternity :)

I am onto my second set of rings. When I was on the way to hospital for birth of child no 1, I took my engagement ring off and put it away safely, and wore only my wedding ring. You guessed it, engagement ring never to be seen again, though it was certainly not one of the rocks that are around today. If you looked carefully you would see the diamonds!
Anyway, fast forward 11 years to 1990 and Mr L_t_L surprised me with a new set of three rings when I finished all the chemo and radio treatments. He had chosen them and paid them off ready to give me when it was all over. When he gave me the box I thought it was a pair of earrings! I dropped a diamond from the eternity ring a while back so it is waiting for me to get around to having it repaired.

We are staying at the Sheraton from Wednesday. Last month when we were there, we had coffee and cake at the Providore at marina Mirage ( across the street from the Sheraton) We will more than likely do that again. According to their website they do cakes to order

Now that looks tempting! I shall get in touch.

It just seems a waste to buy a full Pavlova when I won't touch it. Will see how I go!

Note: She thinks we are going to the local indian for dinner for her 30th.. :D
