Anybody listening to Jon Faine on 774 right now? Long story short - a car servicing centre offering 'free loan car' if you put your car in for service - so a guy did - was called after he left in his 'loaner' and told that this and that needed to be done to his car and would take 3 days to fix but ok for him to use 'loaner' til his ready.

Next day his father dropped off his car to same service centre and drove off in his 'loaner'. Later in day son receives MMS from his dad asking 'hey son isn't this your car?' YEP - lo and behold service centre 'lent out' son's car to dad as a 'loaner' - matter is currently 'under discussion' between son and service centre.

Oh my, that is scumbag material.

WOW.

Wasn't an airport parking provider accused of something like that way back when (or maybe it was joyriding in cars while their owners were OS).

In any case, my mechanic is a gun. Usually can do same day service (unless there is a parts shortage). The only driving they do is around the immediate area of their workshop (which is necessary to test certain things, and also replicate any strange noises). Most I have ever seen is an extra couple of KMs on the clock consistent with test driving.

The only coughpy thing is they are out in Rowville, so it's a bit of a pain to get to. But very reasonable pricing. No "Inner Suburbs Tax" with these blokes. Fair and reasonable pricing. They ring you if there is anything "major" or high cost needed.

I just had a very tense discussion with a co worker who I had a meeting booked with and she tried to explain her constant lateness as, "Being late is in my DNA".

Me: Not its not. Its not genetic, its being disrespectful to the person you made the appointment with and poor time keeping. Its rude, its you saying that my or other peoples time mean nothing to you.

Now I feel I was a bit too strong in my delivery but it drives me nuts.

I hate people that cannot be bothered to be on time. Its saying that there time is more important than yours. Start times seem to be optional for a lot of people these days. Once arranged a lunch and a friend asked if she had to be there at 12, or was any time after 12 ok. Was fairly pointed that if she wanted to eat, she would have to be there at 12....

1532501[/URL]]My husband and I, well really its me, talk about upgrading my engagement ring but in the meantime we keep having holidays.

I almost did it once, we went to the store and picked out the stone but when it came down to it, I booked a trip to Nth Sulawesi instead. I said to hubby that I would hate one day to be without him and look at the diamond ring and think, we could have done things together instead with that money.

But one day hes going to be in for a big shock when I do commit to an diamond upgrade.
I refused to have an engagement ring, until we could afford what I wanted.....

Slightly on topic here but...

Am flying home from SFO tomorrow night and was in 5B since I booked the ticket last year. There has been a change of planes with row 5 no longer in existence. :(

I was moved to an upstairs exit row but with 1K free I decided to change seats. :)

yes I have lost a few bits over the years - am now very diligent about putting away safely.

Miss FM lost a ring that her now fiancée had given her after they had been together for a year. She thought she had put it in her jeans pocket, but it was nowhere to be found. After a few months she bought another one that looked the same and never confessed to him that she had lost it!

About six six months after that, I left my peg bucket outside and it rained. The next day I threw all the pegs out to dry and there was the ring! She must have washed the jeans, with ring, hung them up to dry and the ring slipped out and into the peg bucket. :). She now wears the original and the spare is in my safe!

Can bottled water go out of date?

Good question for Uppy.

I think the issue is about having confidence that the breakdown of other chemicals in the water matches what is printed on the label within an acceptable tolerance. I don't believe water ever "goes off", but happy to be proven wrong.

Certainly soft drink does go flat after about 1-2 years, so best not to stockpile it.

Uppy?

I am am prepared to substitute red wine for water if I am in any danger whatsoever!

When not guzzling on Bollinger, UpInTheAir:) is actually quite the expert in water / hydrology / etc as her day job.

... Should have picked wine if you ask me.

How many glasses of wine in a bottle of wine? How many glasses of wine before one gets sloshed? Maths is everywhere....

The first one is easy:

... and that probably illustrates the second question too.

One of the coolest things I remember learning at school, which I never knew existed, was unreal or imaginary numbers. Opened up a whole new world of physics, especially (at the time) electronics.

I have a problem with earrings. I seem to lose one of a pair

I did lose my hearing aid a few years ago (yes, I am rather deaf) when in Sydney. It was a BTE and it somehow popped off leaving the connection still in the ear. Think my sunglasses might have dislodged it. It wasn't insured. At the time about 3K down the tube.:(

Am I eligible for Medicare?

If you live anywhere in Australia you are eligible for Medicare if you have:

- Australian citizenship

I am guessing that my daughter qualifies but there could be debate if she is actually be living here as she will be going back and forth to Thailand.

Medicare really busy and not taking calls. If wanting to add child to Medicare there is mention of details in some pack that was given at birth in hospital. Perhaps a visit to a Medicare office may explain more.

John your daughter will go under your Medicare number until she gets her own added to yours. Most practices bulk billing do this.

Depending on the 'quality' of the plastic bottle the CO2 can diffuse through the plastic in less than 100 days.

Had no idea this happened crazy stuff!!

Medicare eligibility requires Australian citizenship AND proof of residency in Australia.
The Medicare website will have more information about the residency definition

very sad :(. I have never had my ears pierced, so don't wear earrings, but I do lose bangles quite often and once threw away a diamond pendant that I hadn't put away properly. :(
