Well this afternoon I spent productively watching 55 Days In Peking.I enjoyed it as a young fellow when it first came out.
Enjoyed it this time as about 15 years ago I was privileged to talk to a fellow who was actually there for the Boxer rebellion-though he was only 8.His father supervised the building of the railway from the Coast to Peking. He still had a teapot given to his father by the Last Empress.
It is truly amazing the stories that people have.

It is time for my first SYD-BNE commute of the year. My recent 2 week holiday feels but a dream now....

Maybe if I stopped going to BNE drinlks more locals would turn up. ;)

It has been getting a little small in numbers. We really need to take adverts out if we want to attract more BNE flyers.

Simple solution: get a Mac.
Seriously, unless you lock a Windows PC down fairly tight, it will acquire all sorts of rubbish because people cannot be told. Macs aren't perfect, but they're (currently) a significantly smaller target and thus there is less harmful stuff out there for them. Security is generally better as well.

I guess, if you could boot into a fresh environment every time, like they have at universities, that’s be useful, you’d just have to remember to save your documents to a USB drive.

Well this afternoon I spent productively watching 55 Days In Peking.

My elderly neighbour was also watching that!

Don’t know what the story relates to, but she was married to a diplomate back in the 70’s and they spent time in Beijing, Karachi and probably other places.

Just get a ShamWoW and be done with it!

Now I’m gonna have that awful man saying that word in my head all night!

It is time for my first SYD-BNE commute of the year. My recent 2 week holiday feels but a dream now....

But hopefully you’ve re-qualified for WP.

LOL same flight as me when I tried CX J; all the way to MEL I assume?

You guessed right - all the way to MEL. It was the only flight available that wasn't going to require me to be at HKG at OMG o'clock (complete with what would almost certainly be a dreadful hangover :p)

Many thanks for all the advice. Am a touch disappointed about the bubbles :( Oh well, maybe I could get some sleep or something :p

Was sitting in MKY departures waiting for DJ checkin to open.Sat near the closed TT checkin when this LOL comes up and asks me if I am flying TT.No thank goodness. She says her grandson is flying from MEL and is due in about midday but she says he has rung and said he will be late.Like many of her vintage she wants to make sure she doesnt miss him.
As we are talking her phone rings-she is a modern LOL after all.Her expression changes and when she is finished she turns to me and says that was him.He says he has been told they wont be leaving until at least 2240.Just then 3 airport personnel walk out of their office so I approach them and ask if they have heard about the TT flight from MEL-it is ontime. So I tell the womens story and the answer is if it is that late it might not be landing here.
So one very sad and upset LOL in Mackay.

Anyone else seen hot cross buns in the supermarket as I did this morning!
Easter isn't till the 2nd of April yet they are trying to sell stuff for it already.
BTW it's also only 348 days till Christmas.

Yep, and Chrisco is starting up their usual advertising campaign at full throttle.

Yes, seen the hot cross buns out already. Christmas creep is bad enough, but easter creep by the supermarkets is insane.

It's also not isolated, here's a recent article from the UK's Telegraph on it:

Easter eggs on sale already at Tesco
By Ben Leach
Published: 8:17AM GMT 31 Dec 2008

Easter eggs were put on sale at a Tesco supermarket only four days after Christmas.

Staff at the store in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, put out "Easter Treats" displays of chocolates and daffodils on Monday.

Cadbury's Creme Eggs, Easter Chicks and chocolate bunnies were placed yards from reduced-price Christmas crackers, decorations and wrapping paper.

Stephen Roland, 31, a customer at the store, said: "I couldn't believe it. Selling Easter eggs three or four days after Christmas is ludicrous - particularly when Easter is in April next year."

*phew* Well, just cleaned up my AFF Private Messages. Some have been CSV'd, others plainly given the chop. The 90%+ full warning has disappeared from my info panel and I'm down to 20 out of 200.

I don't know how I would have coped without an AFF subscription, let alone in the non-subscription limit of 25 PMs and even more so compared to the old non-subscription limit of 10!

FWIW FT gives a limit of 500 (no subscription required). My time will come for that one eventually.....

It's unbelieveable,I know that we are a consumer driven society but selling hot cross buns and easter eggs 3 months before easter is just plain ridiculous IMO,I wonder if Qantas will have an "easter sale" next week? somehow I doubt it.

Geez I knew you were a popular fella but 200 PM's? I don't think I have even had 10 yet.

How can they sell hot cross buns and easter eggs 4 months early but stop selling mince pies 10 days after Christmas. It’s so annoying. I now have to wait until December to buy some more, when they’re great snacks year round! :(

I wonder if Qantas will have an "easter sale" next week? somehow I doubt it.

If they do, should we start a thread now to discuss where we’ll all be meeting on some wacky mileage run? :p

I've had to clean my PMs at least twice last year. ;) :)

I did an end of year clean up just after Christmas as once you drop from paid subscription to a nobody then that creates a hassle sending and receiving PMs.

When you are organizing meet ups then you can go through a long string of PMs, especially if they are overseas.

Lucky for us admin increased the limit during 2008.

Geez I knew you were a popular fella but 200 PM's? I don't think I have even had 10 yet.

Would you like a few of us to send you a PM so at least then you are in double figures.

I need to archive then delete the oldest 50 every few weeks (here and on FT)

So you are more popular than anat0l it seems. :p

serfty is fast on the PM reply; ask him a question and you get an answer back straight away.

You're correct samh004...having lunch and catching up on my required reading (of updated threads). Was away/offline for 10 days - took the family down to Lennox Head for a holiday on the beach.
