Finally, Aldi mobiles have international roaming. Yes it's expensive but given I only use it to receive SMS's or very important phone calls I am pleased it has finally been implemented.

First thing I do with a new phone is buy those glass screen protector things.
And I dont carry my phone around like my life depended on it every day so its safely in my handbag when walking/driving.

Why is I suspect that you are a member of the group that would (at the very least) look somewhat silly with a phone in their shirt pocket?:shock:

A secondary group member where rural/regional reception is not a requirement?

That's rather odd they charge to receive SMS.....

There's no charge to receive SMS's. Only calls when you're overseas. However it means I can receive SMS's when overseas and if required send them at a charge of 50c each rather than free when in Australia.

I've been up working all night. Brain function deteriorating. Reading again, I can see that tact in logic now ;) Decent enough, what network do they piggyback off?

Speaking of the internet (well close enough) we now have broadband back. We moved from Telstra (woefully slow) to Iinet which is much faster but there was a hitch with the VDSL2 modem and so we have been subsisting on 4G for the past few days. The VoIP is not fully ported from Telstra yet but not a big deal as the only people who ring on it are my mother and next doors.

Well last night we continued our discussion on whether fraud or infidelity was worse. After some champagne and a lovely red we settled on fraud being worse than infidelity. I think alcohol was a big help in getting to this answer.

Were you telling the truth though?

For all Brisbane members, don't forget that on Monday 19 December, Translink will move to the new fare and zone system.
Oh no! So soon? :(

What is it with newer phones these days? Everyone seems to be walking around with a cracked screen; it's almost as if it's some sort of trend or fashion statement.
Screen cracked a while back after dropping phone. It costs ~AUD200 to fix. Have dropped phone a few more times and more cracks. I'm not spending that much money to fix "free" phone.

Fares in the UK go up every year without fail.... if you look at the increase over the last 10 years it's much, much more than CPI for sure.

The Amex Explorer comes with smart phone screen insurance for those who have one. Just pay the bill with it and you are covered - I think it gives up to 2 replacements a year but best check if I am correct before relying on my say.

Luckily, this latest change is set to save most people money. Less zones and mostly lower fares.

For frequent travellers, depending on the pattern there could be smaller savings or an increase. Unfortunately JohnK is a fringe case.

Well that is a better deal than Telstra with overseas SMS at $AU0.75 each. Interestingly enough in Sri Lanka SMS to Australia (on Dialog) work out at about $AU0.06. And if the phone SIM package is bought downtown rather than the airport you'll get enough time (a week at my usage) for about $AU3.
