Wow, must have been some guy and hopefully just in old SQ 2-2-2 layout.
They are out making hay as fast as they can whilst the sun still shines. This would have been her third trip home in R from JFK this year and the time in the shell was starting to push limits.
Shame CX keep mostly to J as have surprising availability using Asiamiles though like SQ likely have to pay more at short notice. Hopefully the CX review will bring back F to Oz though unlikely.

Have a zero account with Asia Miles but I can load it very quickly from a couple of points warehouses. Have not needed it so far.

Is there a thread to post random photos? Guess I could start one and if there is one already they could be merged!

Happy 116th Anniversary of Powered Flight. Way to go, Orville & Wilbur!

Seems pretty clear he did in fact, by a couple of years, and that the Wrights learned a lot their visit to him and from the motors he developed.

Apparently a witnessed flight was made on 14 Aug 1901.

That powered flight also apparently had a takeoff to landing ration of 1.0 which in my mind is a qualifying flight

Purchased 40 boxes of Lindt to give away on Friday and hubby finally fit 1.1kg of chocolate in the gift box for himself.

This is why he needs supervision at all times.

I could quite happily eat 1.1 kgs of white truffle balls  I think they are my no 1 favorite Lindt flavour, closely followed by the mint balls. I cant walk past a Lindt shop !!!!!!

Here was the storm that has been brewing for the last couple of days

Kevin Mitchell Jnr (curator of The Gabba) got the players off well before it hit there

There were a couple of small hailstones before the rain and strong wind hit

Saw them at NRT a week ago.Was Terminal 1 but absolutely sure in Terminal 2 before.

It is controversial IMO.

It is possible Gustave Whitehead made the first powered flight.

Thanks learn something new everyday!

Also learnt that the enigma code breaking machine ( 3 rotors) was gifted at the start of the WW2 to France, England and I think to the USA military secret service. Along with instructions on how to decipher the machine. Three Polish Mathematicians cracked the then enigma!

Of course later came the 4th Rotor and Allen Turing's work to crack that.

Anyway Hollywood ain't always right

I think the enigma machine 3 wheel version was cracked as you said and information shared as described. However the Germans added a 4th wheel but the updated was eventually cracked by the allies using captured code tables.

Trump knows about the Hollywood poor grip on reality and fact

Interesting discussion over at TripAdvisor re an international visitor who fell asleep whilst running a bath which overflowed causing all sorts of damage. The hotel has sent a lawyer's letter saying that he owes them USD10K.

On Australian travel insurance, would we be covered for this sort of thing?

I'd say this would be covered by personal liability if that's included in your policy (might be excluded on some budget policies).

Generally there'd be an exclusion for an intentional act, or possibly one of the other exclusions (for example if alcohol has involved). If you were just ultra tired you may have a claim.

Edited: just found this from TID:

[h=2]Personal Liability - Definition[/h][FONT=&quot]Section 15 Personal Liability – Terms of cover

The policy covers the costs incurred for which you are legally liable if, due to your negligence, you cause a loss or damage to property. The property cannot be owned by you, a member of your family or travelling party nor can it be in your or their custody or control.

Personal Liability also covers you when you are found legally liable for causing injury to a person who is not a member of your family or travelling party.

Please note that there is no cover for claims arising from -
  • your trade, business or profession
  • injury to an employee arising out of or in the course of their employment by you
  • an unlawful, wilful and malicious act
  • your ownership, use or possession, even as a passenger, of a mechanically propelled vehicle, aircraft or watercraft
  • you passing on an illness or disease to someone else
  • participation in snow sports and activities, except those activities covered under Section 16 Snow sports and activities option when you have purchased that option

I got a box for a sumo tournament in Tokyo a couple of years ago - lots of fun and enjoyed ourselves. Hope you have fun.

Anybody lashed out and bought a Google Pixel phone? Impressions?

Friend reviewed one and said it was sluggish. I think it's overpriced, and ended up getting a Oneplus 3T which is a nice phone and very punchy. Few nigling issues though, the soft keys at the bottom of the phone are super sensitive and I often end up hitting them instead of the keyboard, the battery life is good, but screen has a massive drain on it. Also, they don't support all network bands, so you may not get great performance in some situations.
