The totally off-topic thread

I do wish politicians would wait until the circumstances of a case have been investigated before proposing system changes. It may just be the individual decision that needs review.
A contributor to John Fain's programme this morning pointed out that in most cases the bail justices accept the police recommendations and that magistrates are actulay much more lenient.

Yes, but wait for the circumstances of which case? The current one or the previous 10 which have haven't resulted in such an awful outcome but re-offending with dire consequences? Untrained lay-people letting accused out on the streets after serious (alleged) crime? Gimme a break.

I gather John Fain runs some sort of programme and has callers. Are the callers vetted to tell the truth or does John Fain accept anything blurted down a phone line?

Our internet and phone line in Sydney were disconnected by mistake early in January. Someone asked NBN to disconnect us but it wasn't us. We now expect to be reconnected in February. We were told TPG requested the disconnection but they won't talk to us as we have never been a customer. All the connections to each of our apartment buildings are in number one building and we are in number 3 building. The level of incompetence has been outstanding and the idea of a quick reconnection has been a bad joke. I am guessing that someone flipped the wrong switch but I could be wrong.

The article references young people and court bail is usually given. Did you just delete it?

Yes, I noticed the link to 'young persons' only after I posted the hyperlink. It seems JPs can grant bail in WA, but they have a 15 week course. So not the same as Vic.

Just to note also the modem is something that the customer owns and can take with them. The NTU that it plugs into though, would remain behind.

Yes, my mistake..... mixed up modem and NTU, sorry.

Wait until more issues arise? If the magistrates are more lenient then at least they have some kind of legal training. And maybe they are only lenient in situations where it's more appropriate. Devil is in the detail.

After all, all they are doing is ensuring a suitably qualified person is hearing the case and just brings them into line with everywhere else in Australia

Clearly they have already waited - much too long.

We like Huntsman spiders in the house, they don't annoy us and they eat other things we don't like, like red backs, but this is a bit worrying, Hannalore (we like to give them names starting with 'H'!) has been up near the ceiling and now it looks like she may have reproduced! A couple of Huntsman are fine, not sure if we want this many though, besides we would run out of names. :)

HuntsPERSON please! :)

We allow house Huntsmen as well but I spoke to them about safe sex and babies will not be tolerated.

Only once did they disappoint us and had babies.

I get TV to do a catch and release if possible.

Yes, I think that will be me up on the ladder, apparently new mums are very protective for the first couple of weeks, so I think I'll wait for a bit. :)

In the past we have caught the spider in a jar and removed it outside though you might find that a bit difficult Cossie. I understand mother huntspeople can be quite protective of their offspring.

edit - oops just saw you had posted something similar Cossie

We have huntsmen including in the cupboard in the room where our suitcases are stored. At the start of my current trip, as I retrieved the cases, I said to my partner that one of these days one of them is going to emerge from a case crevice in a far away country.

you would get on well with Mr FM. I have a simple rule - outside spiders live, inside spiders die (apart from daddy long legs, which are kind of cute and there is another one that jumps that I like). Unfortunately I rely on Mr FM to carry out the genocide and he insists on capturing them on a broom and taking them outside. Except for red backs which he agrees need to be killed if they are inside.

We had a wasp nest and when hubby was removing it (ie, killing), one stung him.

About a month ago, hubby yelled from his bathroom that there was a wasp in his toilet (came in through the glass lourves)... followed by, "Dont worry. The spider got it! God, I love that spider"

Hey MEL folk - are there any shower facilities for arr pax with zero lounge access? Did I not read somewhere that the toilets at QF end int arr waiting area has shower facilities? Or was that just another night that Tommy, penegal and myself really tied one on?
