I particularly like the change of proposition there :)

Subtle - as a sledgehammer . :p I'm sure we can loan it Tommy - just not sure about access just yet. All to be revealed next Monday.

Seems that NBN has already been activated and working  No modem. No power. No apartment. Takes up to 3 weeks in Adelaide - this took 3 hours and billing already started!

But apparently I have to use the electrical supplier contracted by the body corporate. So still nothing sorted about power yet. But hey, apparently the internet is working.

Where are the checks and balances in this volunteer framework? They have no legal qualifications. They are glorified JP's. Yet their tasks can be as onerous as those faced by Magistrates and Judges during the weekday. Victoria is the only state that deploys such a system.
Victoria has already moved to change the bail system - they will have magistrates for out of hours bail decisions for violent crimes where police oppose bail

Melbourne car attack: Bail law reform announced by Daniel Andrews in wake of Bourke St rampage - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

At least there is a week up your sleeve there; or MrP can dine by candlelight :)

I do wish politicians would wait until the circumstances of a case have been investigated before proposing system changes. It may just be the individual decision that needs review.
A contributor to John Fain's programme this morning pointed out that in most cases the bail justices accept the police recommendations and that magistrates are actulay much more lenient.

Wait until more issues arise? If the magistrates are more lenient then at least they have some kind of legal training. And maybe they are only lenient in situations where it's more appropriate. Devil is in the detail.

After all, all they are doing is ensuring a suitably qualified person is hearing the case and just brings them into line with everywhere else in Australia

John Silvester (aka Sly of the Underworld) cuts through to get to the core of the issue.

He also suggests that it's not politicians who are the problem but the legal profession.

There are several issues relating to the justice system and the way that it fails all involved including the accused.

With the greatest of respect to them, a lot of the issue in the criminal justice system is the prosecution - or rather their lack of resourcing meaning there are a number of delays in gathering the evidence, providing the brief of evidence etc.

In my days in the criminal courts, it was pretty standard for matters to be adjourned to a new date during pre trial stages due to the prosecution not being ready or because they've served evidence late.

It was also common practice for the prosecutor to not have even read a file before picking it up in court. This meant you could never have a preliminary discussion with them on a case (as we would do as common practice in NZ) so case would be called and then adjourned off so that discussion could occur. Meanwhile, the client has incurred another 2-3 hours of billing.

House photography done. Its rather like being stripped bare in front of a large crowd, I feel very exposed now. Never mind the fact my face washers etc got tossed on the floor behind the loo

That doesn't sound very pleasant BC. Last time we sold we had to have 2 separate sets of photos done (as we changed agents). Both experiences were OK and the second guy was excellent - he moved a few things round in the back courtyard and took down a curtain in the bedroom (to let the light in and show the view) but that was all.
Now you just have to wait for the advertising and hordes through. I think I remember that you said it was for sale by private treaty not auction so it could go on for a while :(

I think it's now going to be an auction.

I told them when they arrived that if they wanted anything moved I was happy to do it. I didn't want strangers handling my things. But photographer shut herself in the bathroom and helped herself. The only saving grace was when she tried to call Lola then I called her and she ran straight to me

Lola obviously is a good judge of character. How did she and Miss Daisy take to the proceedings?
At least if it's an auction, there will be an end date (hopefully).

The article references young people and court bail is usually given. Did you just delete it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the NBN modem was supplied by NBN as part of the installation when the premises was connected. Have the previous tenants snaffled it?

I guess when you sign up you get the modem then when you cancel it is taken away as each provider has a different one?

Modem will generally belong to signee of contract or belong to original supplier.

There is rarely any relation to the address the modem is located.

From the providers point of view, it is a disposable product which is usually technologically outdated by the time they supply it to the consumer.
Prices they quote refering to value of such product are arbitrary.
Sounds good, looks like a freebie.
That's where the truth ends in the marketing world.

So, in closing, if you have NBN supply at your address, Your new provider of your choice will generally supply a modem with your contract.
They do not assume nor presume just because address is NBN capable that there will be a device available for their new customers wants and desires.
Anyway, just my opinion & experience.
It only takes a phonecall to get something owing to you....or something for free often, even if it isn't owed to you.
Always ask, If ye not ask, ye shall never know.

;-)

Generally speaking the modem will be sent out and will be delivered to site day or so before anticipated connection date.

Just to note also the modem is something that the customer owns and can take with them. The NTU that it plugs into though, would remain behind.
