Watching the media it so clearly shows how Sydney centric it is. The Victorian fires were SO much worse in every sense of the definition yet they say it's NSW worst day?
Unfortunately it seems city news gets the headlines in many cases. In Jan 2013 Coonabarabran area (NSW) endured a massive fire but still seem to be struggling through red tape, meanwhile the Blue Mountains where there is a history of fires would appear to get more resolution from their fire of Oct 2013- obviously not everyone in the Blue Mountains has come out of it well but Govt action appeared to be on a larger scale & more swift. In our local area today many people have endured major fire problems but the Sydney centric press will probably have moved on by tomorrow. I feel very sorry for anyone who ever goes through the traauma of a fire but yes the press appears to push the barrow of only some

Adelaide had three days over 40 but no mention in the ABC news but headlines "Heat to hit to NSW or Vic or wherever" Left Adelaide work at 5pm Friday night and it was 42 - a bit over an hour later I was in Victor Harbor and it was a balmy 26 and still about 38 in Adelaide - I need to retire to Victor

Doesn't ABC have local news in each major location? Surely then there's at least something about Adelaide being hit by 40+ degree weather; at the very least, it must be connected to the ongoing problems with the power supply.

Saturday afternoon I declared the air con will go on, and it did... for about an hour... then my husband declared the "air con is killing me", took the remote and turned it off.

It was about 42c at that point.

Thankfully the southerlies came through shortly after and peace was restored to our home.

I would have put him outside and kept the air con going. :-)

There is stuff in the local media but if you read the national headlines Vic and NSW always have it worse than SA - we're just tough over here and are expected to have hot weather and live with it

OK, much of the recent posting has been rather ON TOPIC.

Please keep n line with the title of this thread.

Why do some people love political discussions? Yes we know each side never does wrong. Pointless trying to convince people to change their belief.

Golf is a much better topic. No one gets hurt. Oh except for stray golf balls and the occasional stray golf club....

Happy Valentine's day to everyone.

I hope your day is filled with love and a glass of something appropriate

It will probably be carmageddon in California as everyone is into Valentine's Day. The line for Sees Candies can be amazing.

I loved that by Boxing Day, all the stores in the US were already stocked with Valentine's candies.

Pakistan capital has been banned Valentine's Day in it's capital.

A court in Pakistan has banned public celebrations of Valentine's Day in the capital, Islamabad, on the grounds that it is not part of Muslim culture.
The Islamabad High Court's order prohibits all Valentine's Day festivities in government offices and public spaces with immediate effect.
It also directs the media not to promote or cover Valentine's events.
The orders were a response to a private petition which argued that Valentine's Day was contrary to Islamic teaching.

Unless they were specifically marked as "To My Valentine" or similar, I thought there was always a market for romantic themed candy (for example, anniversaries... or forgotten anniversaries...)
