Stay safe all you southern QLD AFFers. Looks like a wet and wild day/evening ahead.
SIL in Brisbane has been putting photos of their garden/back patio on Facebook - all looks very wet. I have asked her to leave the rain behind when they come south to the wedding.....

Just been to NZ - I know this is my fault before anyone gets carried away but I booked the flight (by mistake) with the shortened version of my christian name eg Kath instead of Kathleen - of course didn't realise until I went to check in the night before. Checked in at the QP and when they gave me my boarding passes I queried the variation and the lady said yeah I noticed that but it let me so you should be fine. Other lady says no that's not right - check with the supervisor who said yes had to be reticketed at a cost of $80 (no GST because I was flying internationally) I only had an hour to transit in Sydney so didn't want to get caught with issues there so paid the money. My question is Qantas linked the flight to my FF number which clearly says Kathleen so shouldn't there be a little alert to say hey you can't book this flight with this FF number because the names don't match - am I being a little too optimistic?

It is frustrating when this happens :(. I guess the onus is on us to get it right and they would probably say the FF program isn't anything to do with the booking. Would be nice if they did throw up an alert. Last year I was booking a ticket for Master FM and I rather lazily let google fill in the phone number and didn't notice it had actually filled in my husband's First name into the bookings middle name (I know bizarre). In that case it initially listed the booking in my son's ff account, but later got rid of it because it didn't match. I was actually able to correct the middle name some weeks later and get it reticketed with paying.

My worst ever was booking some business class return tickets with South African airways from Nairobi to JNB online. I left the last letter off Mr FM's surname and that ended up costing a bundle to fix, as I had to cancel, rebook and by that time both the cost of the airfare and the exchange rate (it was in US$) had gone against me. (That was the only option offered - no change fee). Then just to add insult to injury, we missed the return leg out of JNB and ended up booking a J class one way to Nairobi at on the day fares (and no they weren't cheaper!). I hate to think how much that sector ended up costing.

Mrs GPH has the T shirt and other Ampelmann paraphernalia from her Berlin trip a few years back

Does she wear it to "traffic light" parties? :p :p

That was about the only reason I could think of to wear it.

This is the view as we left our hotel room in Fiji this morning. So peaceful.

Little did we know the dramas in store at the airport. All of Fiji lost power just before we were due to go through immigration and security. A one hour wait before everything was back up. Fortunately we were near the front of the line which eventually stretched the full length of the terminal and part way back.

Safely entrenched in the Auckland Hilton now with an upgrade to lovely Bow Suite. We get on Sea Princess back to Sydney tomorrow.

Telstra tinkering outside our footpath/in the line pit at 3.45pm, he leaves about 4.15pm, after putting up fencing around the pit area.

Now we have no internet/phone line.

Doubt we will see him back until next week.

Bill, I am booked on the same cruise in January, would love to hear your thoughts at the end.
Was there any formal nights? dining suggestions, day tour at Bay of Islands.
We are booked into cabins 302, 304, 306 Deck 11 Aloha.

So the moral of this story is to not travel with you - ever!

:D

Having in the last 36 hours or so done EDI-LHR-DUB-LHR-JFK-LAX-SFO I have been amazed that all flights were on time and even the short connections were easy (and the bag made it, too). BA were, as usual, bloody awful. A necessary evil given I couldn't get the AA flight into the schedule for LHR-JFK.

I see why go direct(ish) when you can connect?

We have entered day 2 of no internet and at 6.50am,my husband was outside sweeping.

Sweeping!

I've never seen that man wield a household tool for 20 years.

If he gets a blister, I'm going to hear about it for weeks.

A tiny consolation is that Telstra will give you a credit on your account for the days you are without phone/internet. When our cable was down for a couple days we got back $30 or something. Paid for the new remote we needed (although after 5 years or whatever I'm not sure why that wasn't free...)
