Send it registered mail so you have a tracking number. NOT that Aussie Post seem to give a damn about having the recipient sign the cardy thing anymore but you have a receipt saying you sent it registered.

The problem is finding an address. Do I send it to the local store, or to HQ?

I havent spoken to them; ACCC advised to deal directly with DJs.

Why? Wasting a lot of emoitional energy and effort, IMHO. Deal with the manufacturer not the monkey. If you want the machine fixed in less than 6 months, go direct.

457 visas are dead? About time too.
The current ones stay ...

I think it would have been better to impose an annual levy payable by the employer for every new and existing 457 visa of $20,000+; if the employer is that desperate to import "skills", make them pay for it.*

* This based on the more and more everyday occurrence I come across where people have been onshored using 457 visa's because they will work for less doing the same roles as existing Oz residents.

Well not really. Just smoke and mirrors. Nothing has really changed. Australia is still full of foreign IT workers and Irish female hairdressers. Just fewer deer hunters.

Ed: Sorry - "deer farmers".

Problem being, the most desperate to come here will agree to pay the $20K via slave type labour... which Im sure already happens in some situations.

I know of 457 workers who work for less than their colleagues as they see it as a path to residency.

Because DJs sold it to me. I wouldn't tell one of my customers to deal with my supplier, so why would I? It's their job to deal with Toshiba, not mine.

Electrical stuff, I think a lot of retailers fob you off to the supplier. I think Good Guys got in trouble for doing that with Apple products a long time ago.

If it was within the standard warranty period, sure. But, it's not, so... I'd go straight to Toshiba first.

Fair enough but what a waste of time? If it makes your day by all means argue with them for months. :)

But you won't get your machine fixed for months and in the end it will need to be sent to Toshiba. We had a similar issue several years ago and Toshiba repair shop fixed it in an hr while I waited.

Just rebranded.

The Dutch have a good system. IIRC the person coming in, has to earn 1.5x the average salary to get a visa. This would kill Foreign IT firms that bring people on 50K a year.

Oh Gina wouldn't like that. Didn't she want to pay them $1 a day?

Oh well. As long as we don't have the massive influx of 457 visas as we did a few years ago then that's a good start. Some companies stopped advertised locally and just hired those on 457 visas and because they were getting desperate for staff they paid them close to going rate for locals. Unfortunately just because you pay someone more doesn't mean you'll get more out of them.
