Whether you pocket it or give it to charity, you've still stolen it as you havent made sufficient attempts to find the owner.

I did, I asked around and nobody claimed it, nor saw anyone drop it, so my concience is clear.

Unlike the time I was at Rally Finland when I also found some money at a spectator point, 20 euro if I remember correctly, I asked in English if anyone had lost it (a lot of Finns speak English). Anyway, one drunk bloke started shouting at me in Finnish, onlookers said he was claiming it and that I had stolen it from him!

He had however, come from another direction so I'm fairly sure it wasn't his, but arguing with drunks (espcially Finnish ones) is never going to end well, so I literally threw the note at him and walked off, I could hear him laughing as I left. Not a nice experience.

Asking around isnt sufficient as far as I understand; taking it to the police station where the righful owner can claim it, is. If its unclamed after x period of time, you usually get to keep it.

My experience in Victoria is that the Police will take your details but say to keep the money unless they contact you again within a few days.

If I ever find a suspicious bag containing a large sum of money - Im not looking for the original owner :)

I hear the owners dont usually come looking to claim it so you'd probably get to keep it anyway

A few months ago, police put on Facebook that they found about 40 garbage bags full of dope and the owners were encouraged to swing by the cop shop to pick it up :)

Edit: Found post

India is upset with the 457 visa changes-
Indians' dreams dashed by Australian immigration changes - BBC News

"They at giving Australians the jobs not Indians."

India hinting free trade agreement might be affected due to 457 changes.

The Australian government’s decision to scrap a working visa used primarily by Indians is likely to set back efforts to secure a free-trade agreement between the two countries, foreign ministry officials in Delhi have hinted.

https://www.theguardian.com/austral...it-free-trade-talks-with-india-officials-hint

The proportion of IT professionals from India granted 457 visas and paid base salaries of $53,900 or less, much lower than experienced Australian IT professionals, has tripled under the Coalition government, a study has found.
The Australian Population Research Institute has found that IT professionals are the largest single occupation represented in the 457 program and more than three-quarters are Indian nationals who mostly work in Sydney or Melbourne.

Proportion of Indian IT workers on 457 visas on rock bottom pay triples

And if the bag is not suspicious?

Personally I wouldn't take anything to a police station where they have the opportunity to keep the goods. It's just like finding a golf club on the course and leaving the lost golf club in the Golf pro shop and the person that lost the golf club never coming back to claim golf club. You'll find the golf club in the second hand bin.

People carrying large amounts of cash are dodgy anyway. These days there are no reasons to be wanting to carry large amounts of cash.
I suppose they are taking it to the laundry

They obviously are not into FF points hoarding.

In such cases Police have the onus of proof. They have to prove that the goods were not abandoned, and they have to prove that sufficient attempts were not made to find the owner. And that proof would depend on the context in which the money was found. eg If it was is a street where there were no nearby houses/offices (in a reasonable distance) and no one walking around, then there is no case to answer. If it was in a shop or cafe for instance, different story. Its all about context.

I feel for this woman because she made a really dumb decision but part of her defense was she didnt open the packets (headphones).

Looking at the packets, they are all different sizes/shapes. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Her headphone defense sucks and her lying/family changing the story often isnt helping. Shes lucky shes not in Bali because her sister publicly saying the government is corrupt would blow up in her face if she was busted in Indonesia.

Cassandra Sainsbury drug bust: Cocaine had street value of $1.7m
yeah - I am usually quite a gullible person and generally try to believe the best of people, until proven otherwise, but even I found her story too much to swallow. Feel very sorry for her......We really need a new approach to drugs, which is taking the profit motive away and all the corruption that has gone with it. Treating smoking as a health issue has been really successful.

Office discussion and Im surprised the number of people that dont know their blood type, especially women who have had children.

Im B- and hubby is AB-, both rare Im told.

The thing is, I dont see how the story of 'someone put it in my bag' actually flies when that 'someone' has no way of retrieving the drugs once they've left the country, so that part of the story is never told. If however, she said - "I was meeting that 'someone' in Sydney the day after we landed so I could give him his items" then there is some credibility. But they never say that. So how exactly is that 'someone' going to get any benefit? They aren't.

The negative bit is the most unusual part. But not rare as such.
