Am I the only simpleton here who continually has my head done in by the multitude of different and confusing aircon / heating / cooling systems in hotel rooms? Either freezing or a sauna - is it so totally impossible to just not dial up a certain temp and the fockers follow suit?

Yes, very sad. I remember reading about his kidney transplant a few years ago. It seems that he contracted a very nasty auto-immune disease in Rwanda when he was covering the war there.
