One of my colleagues is from Stanthorpe. Sometimes I bump into her as we walk into work from public transport.

She doesn't have a jacket. I do.

According to her, it's not cold until it drops below zero. The only lucky thing is she means degrees Celsius.

Also, here's a couple of questions for the females on the forum here:
1) Stockings - in cold weather, are they any better than just wearing socks*? Or do they have nearly no effect?
2) If stockings are undesirable when they develop a tear or ladder, why don't they manufacture a better and more resistant stocking? From what I can tell, stockings are sold more or less like chewing gum, and last just as long.

* Just realised my mistake - most office outfits for women don't involve socks (only school uniforms). Oops.

Wimps ... cold is doing field work in northern Quebec in winter (done then as you can drive across all the frozen lakes and swamps to get to the drill site ).

Minus 40 deg C (which as every Canadian knows is also minus 40 deg F) with wind chill, minus 30 without; steer car with left hand, keeping scraper in right hand to scrape off the breath frost from the inside of windscreen as you go. Not being able to drive to work in the morning as water in fuel has separated out and frozen in the fuel lines. Vinyl seat covers rip like paper when you sit on them as they are frozen. Block up the front grille to allow the engine to heat up when driving and supply a modicum of warm air through the blowers. And so on, and so on.

Had some Swedish students doing a rotation to us a few years back in July. They remarked how cold their accomodation was. Thought I heard wrong - Swedes can't handle Sydney winter?. Impossible!!
It dawned on me the reason was because there is no such thing as central heating and proper insulation in Sydney unlike Stockholm or any Scandinavian house
Strange but true - on so many levels...
A friend of mine's son is married to an Icelandic lass. She tried to live out here but they ended up living in Iceland as she couldn't cope. The two main issues - too many trees and the houses were too cold. They wear T-shirts indoors all year.

Current temp in CBR a balmy 1 C.:)

I think they developed ladderless stockings but the manufacturers want us to keep buying new pairs. Maybe an urban myth.

I don't like wearing socks with skirts

I was struggling to handle Brisbane this morning. Armidale will have to wait.
cross Canberra off your list as well- it is supposed to be -4 overnight. Fortunately we are in Sydney for a few days (although it is only going to get colder after we get back).

it is many many years since I subjected myself to that torture known as stockings. Can't remember them being warm at all just prettier than a bare leg. Socks are clearly warmer, but they cover very little of the leg!

Why make stockings that last when you can maximise your profits by making them disposable items? I still have a drawer full of stockings that I bought before I decided to rebel against them. Nothing worse than a ladder and finding you have run out of your last pair....

High humidity doesn't usually bother me so much, but I think I'd rather have a cold beer ;)
Give me high humidity any day. I have 3 layers of clothing on inside apartment and I am still cold.

Wife is starting to really feel the cold. Only a few days before wife and daughter head back to Thailand until mid July.

Don't remember the last time I wore stockings - or a skirt for that matter.
Sox in winter - my work has concrete floor, so sensible shoes and sox.

Me too, next 2 nights at Parkroyal Darling Harbour. (Vivid, Titanic exhibition, Elvis, Sherlock @ Powerhouse.)

I wear skirts and dresses in summer as I get too hot in jeans and even lightweight pants. But I do love the look of dresses/skirts with boots and textured stockings. And you can hide socks in the boots. Top it with a leather crop jacket over blouse and it's surprisingly feminine.

Tights not stockings, they are thicker. Decompression tights are even better, I notice the difference at the end of the day.

I had a project team here from our Ohio office in July and we were complaining about the cold. We were told until we have to dig ourselves through the snow to get out of our house, we have no right to complain about winter.

i used to wear a ski suit to Dr FM's netball games - 8am outside in Canberra's winter. The other mothers laughed at me, but I didn't care - I was warm!

In the office, I have a plug in lap blanket. Kinda like a electric blanket but for the couch, not bed.

Off to nag my husband about us moving to Darwin again! Cant believe Im going to Tassie in August, what was I thinking!
