No not display phones - they are refurbed by Apple in back of their stores - I know some are done in Chadstone and Southland in MEL - not sure exactly which stores do them. They get a % of faulty phones straight up and these go through the process - I have a good contact I will try to get fuller details and post back.

Reports are that early Sept still release timing for 8s - that's 10yrs post original iPhone launch.

It certainly feels new - no sctatches, the lightning cable clicks into the port nice and snug and the home button feels new

Perhapsthey were keen on exchanging because mine was also blemish free.
Any damage will obviously reduce the value of the phone and the exchange might then involve extra charges as well or a denial of exchange.

Did you make the flight OK Cossie after the delay this morning???

No problem in the end, bit underwhelmed by the lounge in Brisbane, guess we have been spoilt by F lounge in Sydney!

Just had an icy cold beer as a welcome drink at the bar of the hotel in Narita. Great crew on QF61 today and they are staying at the same hotel.

Very humid here, not what I was expecting at all. Early wake up to get down to Osaka in the morning.

Is there some kind of football match on?
Ah the joys of not caring. Would have been nice to be surrounded by the gloom tomorrow in the office but now have to concentrate on work instead. Won't be here for the decider so it doesn't matter.

Apple bouquet today...

1year 11month old iPhone - no extended warranty
Battery dying - charge indicator goes from 30% to 4 %

Extended warranty shouldn't be necessary under Australian consumer law? I think a battery should last longer than 2 years for a new phone, especially one that is not easy to replace.

I think yours + CE's experience where they replace it free of charge indicates Apple knows their obligations under the law?

Yes I've had other apple products out of warranty (> official 1year) but Genius Bar says still covered under consumer law (effectively 2 years for most products).
See here:https://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/

Most importantly the Apple customer does not have to argue for the extra consumer warranty, this is always offered IMO.

I think the benefit of a phone replacement - refurbished as suggested above - is better than just a battery replacement.

Sometimes when people are outraged by the latest thing that has outraged them I think exactly that. Phew. I don't have to worry about something.

In hindsight I should have returned my phone earlier. Its now almost three years old but has had constant battery issues, can barely find a wifi network, and now the GPS has no idea where I am. I think its time to take a jump from the Apple ship.
