Does not matter what the namer on the product is - Food Standards (FSANZ) mandates by law an allergen statement when there is tree nuts in the bar. Lack of warning statement means the product needs to be recalled.

Looks like the issue has arisen due to the importer (not Hershey's as the manufacturer) not labelling properly for sale in Australia - as it is an imported product it would have to be overstickered to meet AU food labelling requirements re importer details, address, nutritional panel, allergen declarations.

Still think it's madness. We have taken away any concept that people are intelligent. Produced moronic masses.

Problem is you have to set your expectation for the weakest, most stupid of the bunch.

So basically a person who is allergic to nuts but would eat a box of chocolate covered almonds because the box does not say "may contain nuts"

Or a grandma that doesnt believe in food allergies so to prove it to everyone, gives their grandkid a box of these because it doesnt say "nuts" on the box and she gets blame Aldi/Cadbury ect.

It's contagious stupidity. In BNE on Ashgrove avenue in a clear 60 zone, the BCC has erected two ("TWO"!) flashing warning signs that you are over 50 Kph on a two 30-40 degree bends in the road 20 meters apart. Jeez. It's perfectly safe to take the cornet at 80Km if one wanted. It will be like the US soon where there are flashing warning signs on the freeway that a corner is coming up in one mile.

Oh I agree entirely! But this one is less about consumers being able to appreciate there is almonds and more about the fact that labels must comply with the law.

Here is a crazier one - dark chocolate does not contain milk but people like Lindt use a voluntary cross contact allergen statement ("may contain milk") on its packaging as there may be the chance of contact during the manufacturing process (if the same equipment is used).

You are required to label certain allergens when they are actually ingredients in a product (e.g. milk, nuts, soy etc) in mandatory statements but the "may contain" is a voluntary one as it is based on what may come in contact with the product or the ingredients vs being in the actual product.

Wow, Who are you and what happened to JohnK?
Can't always justify spending the ridiculous airfares VA and QF are charging.

From memory both QF and VA were charging $163 and $149 for flights yesterday when I booked these end of May. The JQ flight matched to TT was $72.50 including seat selection and paid with a JQ voucher purchased at 10% off.

I may do have to that more often.

I have a fear of earthquakes - they were commonplace growing up where I did in NZ so have had my fair share of them.

I refused to move to Wellington for University, despite it being the best for my subject. Ironically I moved back to Christchurch for that...

Everytime I have to head home they are on my mind.

The main reason Japan is not on my list of places to see is because of the frequency of quakes there. I also do my best to limit my time in LA or SFO too.

I wish I didn't fear them so much :(

Yeah, I was living in Christchurch in 2010. It wasn't a fun few months, but we did get quite good at guessing the magnitude of the quakes ;)

I still get sad when I think of Christchurch, it was such a pretty town with the river and the old buildings, churches.

We were in Christchurch in 2010. We were driving down to Dunedin. But we were booked into a hotel in Christchurch, it was after the first big quake, and you couldn't drive into the city centre - and hour before we arrive there was another quake, so Ron stayed with the car, while I went to check out the hotel. I decided it was too risky to stay and cancelled our booking. No problems, but on the walk back to the car a piece of brickwork fell off an old building and landed a few feet in front of me !

"Hey AS, there's a new app coming out and we need a promo web site. Top priority. Here's some text. Oh, and the app will be finished any day now, so ASAP. Thanks."

Ah, the joys of last-minute site builds.

I can't bring myself to go back for a visit. Quite a few of my good friends from my Uni days have all resettled in Chch (prior to the EQ) once they had families etc so have not really seen them in ages.

I have too many memories of the place being something different than it is now.

The stories they have shared about what they experienced on the days of the big quakes are not fun and one especially has really struggled with the constant stress and fear.

Whereabouts did you live?

I also spent a good chunk of my childhood growing up in North Canterbury, especially just near Rangiora.

Sitting in a shop in Xiamen China. I went to look something up on the Qantas app and it conveniently put all the text into Chinese:!:

No option to go back to English that I can find.

Mostly in the Edgeware/St Albans area

Nice! A friend was in that area so spent a bit of time there. As I was a Uni student, I was initially around Riccarton/ Ilam but the last few years were in Addington - just over the railway line, close to Moorhouse and after the jail closed!

This is the John I know (via AFF). If its cheap, it can be cheaper.

He was very anti JQ once upon a time, however seems to have reviewed that position.

You are on holidays with no flights for at least 2 weeks and you have to check the Qantas app, gees.
