I just love it when important things go missing. Filing system non existent. Waiting in line to get a customer reference number 11 days after getting the last one.

"I'll leave it here and can find easily when I need it!". ;)

Went to Russell Falls today and now I'm suppose to make an effort to go out to dinner... Thinking fish and chips at the wharf across the road would be good and min effort required.

Good luck. Is this the job you started applying for a few months ago?

No, haven't heard from that one.

Re applying whilst working, well my current role is part time with variable hours which are decreasing at the moment. My manager is very supportive and I have the work ethic to do the very best job possible until the minute I leave.

Back tonight after sick leave so that is good. I never 'waste' sick leave having a sickie. It is reserved for illness or injury.

Does the Cat and Fiddle arcade still exist in Hobart?

Enjoy your fish and chips. I think we'll have that for dinner tomorrow.

Quite a mixture today, mr shouty in the lounge in Sydney, didn't really need a phone, why do they think everyone needs to hear about them and their boring lives, I've always thought that is the reason why fb existed.
QF23 was about 1 and 1/2 hours late leaving Sydney, the person behind me thought the 'touch' screen was actually a 'push very hard' screen and the harder you jabbed your finger at the screen the faster things would happen
Screaming child for a considerable period of time, and I mean considerable, next to nothing new on the ife from 4 weeks ago, mind you imo most of it is cough anyway.

Fortunately we'll be up at the pointy end tomorrow morning, don't like being down the back anymore! :)

Being a shy and retiring type I enjoy people like Mr Shouty.

At the Private Room coming back in June there was a 40 something Mr Sud African. Apparently he had forgotten to write down all the passwords his wife had asked him to - so she had tried to think what they may be, a number of times seemingly and on a number of different accounts.

During this enthralling discourse (mobile phone on speaker) apart from him there were my wife & I.

The Private Room has a special room (two actually) for people wanting to use a phone - but Mr Sud African preferred to be by the window mid-way along TPR.

So after he'd dreamed up a new password for the second account they were locked out of - I walked over to him and said I thought that was a poor password and I did not want to hear what he dreamt up next so perhaps he should use the rooms set aside for (and posted as) phone rooms.

His wife heard everything and then launched into a tirade "I've told you not to put me on speaker phone so many times."

And then she hung up.

You mean Fish Frenzy to the right, at the end of the pier? Yes, their fish & chips cones are pretty good, also 'downstairs Muirs' between the 2 docks is good - try their marinated fish ... yum. The fish outside punts are OK but more for lunch I think.

Diagonally behind the Grand Chancellor is the 'Hope and Anchor' tavern. Used to be a bit rough (MANY years ago) but a friend got invited to lunch there last week and says its good! Worth poking your nose in and seeing if it suits for lunch or dinner.

You're a rare breed.

The way some see it. Use it or lose it!

You're kidding? I can't recall anyone I've worked with who has 'obviously' taken a 'sickie'.

Tonight it's Mures for dinner... I REALLY want something with either pasta or pork but this easy. :)

Well this is a first for me, wi-fi over the Aral Sea, 1 hour free in Finnair 'J'. 12,000 metres high, 3 and 1/2 hours to go....... Just watched a film by Ari Kaurismaki, probably shouldn't have done that, here I was hoping it would end differently to most of his films and have a happy ending. :(

However the technology that allows this web access from up here is pretty impressive.

Nope. Over the years I haven't met many people who save sick days. Most use them.

Have a friend in the QLD teachers union, apparently they pool them... i.e. they have an unlimited number of days up for grabs.

WE obviously travel in different circles work wise. Most pilots I know have to be told to go home so not to infect others.

I never had a defined number of sick days. If genuinely sick we were encouraged to stay away as long as needed. I know/knew people who were on sick leave for years at time whilst fighting a major illness.

I've worked with people that guaranteed, will have a sickie every month as they see it as owed to them.

Ive also seen women, especially single women, struggle taking care of their children because their kids use up her leave as carers leave and quite often, the dad doesn't step up to help as the kids live with mum.

I got over 100 accrued sick days, hope I never "need" to use them.

I know of quite a few people in roles where sick leave could be accumulated who became ill prior to retirement on the months (and sometimes years) for about the same time as the accumulated leave.

I've been collecting the hotel shampoo ect for the charity that makes bags for shelters to give out. Got a pretty full bag so far from this trip....may have asked housekeeping for extras :)

WE have friends who run 'Annie's Cottage' near Bairnsdale. it is a cottage for families who for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

We supply all the soaps and toiletries from hotels various.

And I see people coming to work days on end with a very heavy dose of the flu.

And that culture is addictive.

You are paid peanuts to work and the person next to you earns the same as you or more and they have a sickie every month while you come to work to try and meet the deadlines of the project. Then you see your other colleague doing the same thing. And the person across from you doing the same and you start to feel stupid. Why should these people get paid to take 10 days off work a year while you are working your cough in the office?

A few years back we had a spreadsheet with everyone's accrued sick leave and annual leave. There was 1 person who had over 100 days sick leave. There were some who have 10-20 days of sick leave while the overwhelming majority had very little sick leave and on occasion would have to take unpaid leave or use up an annual leave day.

So either a lot of people get sick ~10 days a year or people use up their sick leave allowance. It is quite clear people are gaming the system. Sick days are there to be used. Up to you if you don't.

My friends were "rescued" by Finnair's wifi recently. They were on their way back to Australia for a family visit, and only realised after check-in at Helsinki Airport that her husband (a Finnish national) had forgotten to do his eVisitor visa for Australia. So they jumped on the wifi during their HEL to SIN flight and organised it mid-flight, otherwise he may not have been allowed to board their flight from SIN to Australia. In fact, this was cutting it so close that the boarding gate scanner in SIN initially barred him and they had to get it sorted out by staff!

They said the wifi was pretty slow for the purposes of loading the visa portal, but at least it got the job done ;)
