It's not just ACT plates. Anytime people hear you are 'from Canberra', they like to stick the boots in a bit. Many seem to confuse the city and the people who live there with the actions of parliament and what they see as the 'fat cats' of the APS. Even happens in my family with my brothers.

I say to people that 'you' send them to us! 'Canberra did this' and 'Canberra did that', no it didn't, the parliament did. :)

This is why I do 10-30mins work per day when Im on holidays. It makes my life easier and lessens the anxiety on returning to a poop storm. I usually do it while we are winding down in our hotel room, it doesnt take long and I dont begrudge the time (and its not expected of me).

This is what I also do - and if there is inflight Wi-Fi, I use some of the flight back to clean out my inbox so that when I arrive in the office the only things left there are the things to be actioned. As I use an electronic document management system, a number of emails may be autofiled so I can read and delete.

Not expected of me either but done to make life more manageable - and avoid the return to work grrrrrrrrrrrrs

Vale Drew Morphett.Aged 69.A great sports commentator.
And today Dean Mercer at 47 in an MVA apparently caused by a heart attack.

That was unfortunate for you (and her, poor love). Did you know about it when you were away or were only told once you arrived home? At least if the former, you wouldn't have been worried on holiday.
I thought the divine Miss D was the one who was finding it hard at your mother's and Lola was OK. Is her dog being unsociable to both yours now?

Roll on house build - bet it can't come quick enough. Any possibility of the 5 of you (dogs and cat included) being able to house sit anyone over the waiting time?

We found out once she had been collected from the vet and transferred to the pound. My friend collected her and she escaped again, so she ended up at home with mum, while Daisy stayed with my friend. Yes Daisy is the one having trouble with mum's dog, but Lola is straight up miserable, always trying to hide in our bed. I dont think she feels very secure now.

A special thank you to the train driver this morning. At 4.50am he was able to do a very loud double toot from somewhere near Flinders Station to wake up everyone living in Southbank Melbourne. I guess the driver of the train wanted us to know he was awake. He did the second lot of toots a couple of minutes later.

Poor little lamb. It must be so confusing for her. Hope she settles down again soon. No one likes seeing their pets unhappy. :(

Kids are wonderful and know more than we give them credit.

Daughter has been attached to mum since birth but she senses mum is not well and has spent time with grandparents looking after her this weekend. Occasionally took her to wife in bed and asked daughter to give mummy a hug and she would give mummy a hug. So cute.

Daughter has been watching grandma talking on house phone this weekend and daughter now plays with her toy phone. Picks up the handset and says "Dada, mama!".

Decided to sign up for an Optus account to access Premier League and other sports. Only a slight increase in cost for what I pay now with Telstra, which I consider acceptable for what's on offer.

They've emailed asking for confirmation of ID, including a copy of my DL, and mortgage agreement.

I think that's a bit out there for the sake of $40 a month. Not a chance in hell I'll be providing details of my financial agreements with any third party.

<snip>

What the heck do they need either of those documents for? Surely a basic sign up with credit card number and email is all that is required?

The best way to stop the ads and tracking is to edit your hosts file. This is a file that your browser will query before loading a resource. See the attached link - instructions are in the comments at the top of the file. You can turn on and off individual sites (e.g. to support AFF). You will also notice that your web browsing is so much quicker. Using a Hosts File To Make The Internet Not Suck (as much)

If you're on iPad or phone, use Crystal ad blocker/tracker blocker - works well for me.

You run your own business right?

The more emails I have when I get back to work the more time I spend at work to read them and clean them out. There are a few people in the office who spend a lot of their own personal time doing company things. They appear to be under a lot of stress. No thanks.

Couple of stupendous storms today in Slovenia, at least the drivers here seem to respect the conditions better and slow down.

Only downside is that here in Bled, we can't see a thing, hopefully it clears overnight.

At least one West Australian seems to know what he is doing, actually Ashton is from Victoria isn't he?

Pity there aren't any Marsh brothers in the team to blame.... :)

(said tongue in cheek)

No, I work for a company.

But I have a lot of autonomy - and plenty of swings and roundabouts. Meaning the use of my work time is somewhat flexible - I just have to get my work done and I am trusted to do this.

This means that spending 2 hours in a plane reading my emails, when I'd otherwise just be watching a movie is a small price to pay for not putting in an extra 1/2 day of leave to accommodate flights (departing or arriving). Or it means being out of the office for a morning to go to an appointment, without having to take leave etc

My husband was doing his morning swim at the local pool, got a tap on the head at the end and asked to leave the pool immediately.

[FONT=Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif]There was a poop situation in the pool.

Poor man is still showering in antiseptic.

Excellent. Hope loyalty is both ways.

In my role I analyse issues after hours when I should be enjoying my time off. I don't have a computer nor am I logged on but that's the nature of my job. That's also the only loyalty I am prepared to give them. That's all they deserve as they pay me on time once a fortnight.

Well yes it is - I get trusted to do my job and the freedom and flexibility to do it in.

I am well remunerated - to align to the fact that I do have to work outside of 9-5 hours - including being on call for urgent issues. Nature of my role really.

Totally outplayed by Bangladesh. One of these days we will pick a cricket team for the conditions but I guess there's not much left.

I have this feeling though that we'll win and that will be one of the biggest injustices of all time. Like chipping in for birdie from the bunker on the 18th hole when the leader of the major chamionship is on the green in regulation.
