3C when I left home this morning.

Returned to work to 700 emails and a ridiculous request to take on a teaching task that is due today and not part of my job description. I've said no, as I do not have time on top of catching up on three weeks of work. Never has my post-holiday high been shot down so quickly as it has after this trip :-|

The first week back at work and especially the first day are almost enough not to make you take holidays. Almost. Hate the first day. Being self employed we tend to keep an eye on the emails etc when away. It avoids the gazillion inbox emails but on the flip side you never really truly get away from work.

Between work and some cough at home I'm feeling pretty bummed.

I keep an eye on my business emails when we travel, but I refuse to deal with work.

Bummer. Hope things settle soon. Life goes very awry sometimes.

Sorry to hear that. Hate it when you get ambushed with unreasonable requests, especially when there are other pressing things that need doing.

Hope the home front settles down for you.
By the way, did the dogs enjoy their holiday with your friends?

Really annoyed with channel 7 Melbourne yesterday. I am watching the Saints - Tigers game and avoiding social media so I can watch the Mayweather - McGregor fight later. Halttime and Jennifer Keyte announces the result of the fight not once but three times.

Not so much; Lola managed to escape so we got hit with a huge fine for "dog at large" (on top of the reclaim fee that was paid). I think she was trying to go home, though why I don't know as she hates being home as well at the moment.

Well of course they would do that - it is The News after all, Match has been played so its not exactly a spoiler.

Another veteran of Long Tan has departed this life.

Corporal Neil Bextrum CG (RETD) D Company 6RAR died yesterday at Kalamunda Hospital in Perth, aged 72.

He was among the 108 men who held off a vastly superior force on the night of August 18, 1966.

Met him last year after D Company were finally recognised for their bravery under fire. He was a humble and straight forward bloke.

What do you do if the night watchman is out before stumps?

Usually the next batsmen goes in who would have batted if they hadn't used the night watchman system. I liked the days when we didn't use the night watchman system. I have no idea why they went back to it. I got a notification on my phone saying there was a game between Australia and Bangladesh but I forgot to check on it. What's happening? Do we have a cricket thread at the moment?

Kawaja's runout was inexcusable in the circumstances of the game. Utterly ridiculous.

This is why I do 10-30mins work per day when Im on holidays. It makes my life easier and lessens the anxiety on returning to a poop storm. I usually do it while we are winding down in our hotel room, it doesnt take long and I dont begrudge the time (and its not expected of me).

C'mon Cossie, i live in Canberra and the ACT has the worst drivers in the country bar none. I often see drivers too timid to merge properly and stop in the merge lane, and don't get me started on roundabouts!

Yep I agree with you regarding ACT drivers, it's just that ACT plates seem to cause drivers in other states to behave aggressively.

That was unfortunate for you (and her, poor love). Did you know about it when you were away or were only told once you arrived home? At least if the former, you wouldn't have been worried on holiday.
I thought the divine Miss D was the one who was finding it hard at your mother's and Lola was OK. Is her dog being unsociable to both yours now?

Roll on house build - bet it can't come quick enough. Any possibility of the 5 of you (dogs and cat included) being able to house sit anyone over the waiting time?

That is sad to hear as he wasn't very old.

It's not just ACT plates. Anytime people hear you are 'from Canberra', they like to stick the boots in a bit. Many seem to confuse the city and the people who live there with the actions of parliament and what they see as the 'fat cats' of the APS. Even happens in my family with my brothers.

3yr dies from gun shot in Sydney last night. Why the heck a gun was in the house to begin with is something the parents ther need to ask themselves every f'ing day for the rest of their lives.
It appears the father owned the unregistered gun and didn't live there and was breaching an AVO to be there. Not totally clear how the poor little girl was shot.

Beyond me why anyone sees a need to have a firearm in the house at all, especially around children. I suppose if goes to character somewhere.

It's awful. Sawn off shot guns are the classic weapons in armed robberies.

No cricket thread. Bangladesh all out 260. We were 3/18 last night and now 8/146. :(
