Can you believe everything you read on LinkedIn?

I interviewed someone many years ago and did not employ him but employed someone else. A few years later regretted the decision and we got in touch with him and employed him.

He was firstly a junior programmer and later a programmer. He was ok but his work ethic was not quite right. Definitely not a self starter, needed constant management to ensure he was on the right track. I wouldn't hire him again.

Saw LinkedIn profile that he was the principal business consultant when he worked with us. I had to laugh. Since he has been Commercial Manager, CIO in a number of companies around Asia, COO and now General Manager. He has also worked at Cathay Pacific.

It's like I have never known this person. I guess it's possible to turn your life around. In a way if all this is true then I am jealous and my achievents pale into insignificance.

There is a reason why you check referees and preferably not just the ones they give you, but previous employers as well. (Current employers can be difficult). Resume padding is endemic. Worst we ever had was when we organised a phone interview between a client and a candidate and then became suspicious that the person who did the interview was not actually the candidate!

Second iPhone 6s just died in 14 months.

First one lasted 6 months from purchase, after which it turned itself off and refused to turn back on (known problem apparently and they told me I shouldn't leave it charging overnight as that is the cause of said malfunction).

Was replaced under warranty with "refurbed" model.

Second one now has broken speaker/microphone (I can't hear people and they say they can only hear a muffled sound from my end) and the home button has just stopped working..

About to toddle off to Telstra shop for a fun discussion on Apple's 1 year warranty versus Australian consumer protections and the expectation that the lifespan on a phone sold on a two year contract will actually last for two years with normal use (and no damage i.e. water/dropping from my end).

Has anyone had any luck in getting a repair/new phone in a similar case?

Would not you take it to a Genius store ... I've heard reports they may be amenable to replacing under 2 years, although maybe that's what should have happened after the first 6 months.

I wish, unfortunately we're still waiting for our Apple store up here in Cairns...

Its actually contracted through Telstra Business so hoping I can convince them to look after me given we have our phone/lines business NBN plans etc through them. Maybe they will be more amenable that the regular Telstra Shop. We shall see...

This guy (or gal) has been wondering about the neighbourhood for a few days, quietly hoovering up the ants & the like. Quite un-afraid.

I'd love to scoop it up and put it on my back deck, where there are always ants marching across in columns. I imagine for an echidna that would be something like a sushi train.

And sorry, I just can't get 'Sic 'em Rex' out of my mind right now. :)

What happens if your birthday is today?

People would wish you Happy Birthday.

2nd serftys suggestion.

Make an appointment with Apple, genius bar, don't bother going to Telstra.

If anyone can do something for you, Apple will.

Yes, I got a replacement from Telstra at 23 months into a 2 year contract as the phone died within the contract period.

Fantastic - did they volunteer the new phone or did it take a bit (or a lot) of prodding from your end?

Didn't take much once they had seen that it wasn't fit for purpose. Just pointed out that it was less than 2 years old and once they validated that agreed to replace. IIRC it took them 2 days to get in what I assume is a refurbished model.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge ~13,500 baht. The A7 and J7 considerably cheaper.

~AUD540. Is it possible to do better here?

Well, that’s one way to spend a day. Boarded the train in Adelaide this morning and got off in Melbourne 10.5 hours later. Long time but lots to see out the window and breakfast, lunch, morning/afternoon tea included. Food and seats were very good. Just popping down to hotel bar now for a refreshment.

Sounds decent

Coz you must really be thirsty after all that.

It was actually a lovely way to travel. No something you would want to do everyday but good for a change. Two things to remember are 1. Must travel Red Premier (includes food) and 2. Don’t pay the discount fare as you are no guaranteed a window and every second row of seats has a bit of an obstructed view. Better to pay and get a nice big window IMO.
I had omelette and bacon for breakfast and a buffalo curry then pecan pie for lunch (see pics).
Wednesday we did the Indian Pacific from Sydney overnight to Adelaide. That’s fun. Also had a drink with the divine MsPushka while there!
