Went for a walk with one of my dogs this morning and the bushland that the creek flows through (McDowall Reserve) resembled a river.

...

Walked my second dog to the culvert which passes under Beckett Road and it was about 1 metre under the road (so about 3 metres in depth) ad the water was moving.
Don't your dogs get along? :p ;)

London has had good weather for the last couple of days ... looks like Spring has sprung!

It's great seeing sunshine and the sky being relatively free of clouds. Temps are still pretty low (ie today's max is 9deg, currently -1) but that will improve.

It always amazes me too how a change in weather improves people's attitudes as well.

Well, we had a cool day today. Only got to 33. Was nice to walk out of the office at 6pm and be hit with a somewhat cool breeze, rather than the usual hot curtain.

Yes, they get along but I am restricted by Council By-laws to walking my "declared dangerous dog" by herself. Given they are also ~9 years apart in age and different breeds, my 3.y.o Greyhound/Pointer "dangerous" dog needs 3-4 km walks, whilst my 12 y.o. staffy/lab is happy to walk around the block.

What do they have to do to be declared dangerous? I see lots of those council signs and always wonder what the dog did?

Its true that Beattie and his government did actually do something, they drew a line in the sand and declared the following dangerous:
  • dogo Argentino
  • fila Brasileiro
  • Japanese tosa
  • American pit bull terrier or pit bull terrier, and
  • any crossbreed or offspring of those breeds
  • federal liberal politicians
The restricted dogs legislation provides for a minimum standard for the restricted breeds across Queensland but enables local governments, through the implementation of their own local laws, to implement or maintain higher standards of regulation. Recently we merged those councils to improve productivity but did not permit any staff shedding, go figure!

She bit a junk mail delivery guy, who reached across my daughters pram to give me a wad of them one morning. Little did he know that she was merely protecting her pack. She bit him on the upper thigh, broke skin with 3 of her teeth (but no blood).

She must now be walked by herself, with a muzzle (on at all times outside our fence). Warning signs on all external gates/doors. Our local "dog motel" owners think it's hoot every time I lodge her for a holiday, given her otherwise placid nature.

I wondered why my day felt a little shorter than usual:

Chilean Quake May Have Shortened Earth Days - NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Chilean Quake May Have Shortened Earth Days

JPL research scientist Richard Gross computed how Earth's rotation should have changed as a result of the Feb. 27 quake. Using a complex model, he and fellow scientists came up with a preliminary calculation that the quake should have shortened the length of an Earth day by about 1.26 microseconds (a microsecond is one millionth of a second).

I've always thought Perth handles heat better than the Eastern states. Less humidity, the wind or something??? Maybe I'm mistaken...

With all the talk of Pauline Hanson moving to the UK to live, I think I've found the perfect shop for her to buy and run:

Not when the average temperature over Summer was something like 36 degrees!

Certainly Perth Infrastructure doesn't die when the temperature gets above 35 degrees.

Point taken. I've actually enjoyed being in Perth over Summer. Just never felt as hot as Brisbane did.

I don't think the trains broke down, and there were no mass blackouts (unlike other States!)...

Yeh, the lack of humidity helps. Still darn hot though!

Certainly - the lack of moisture in the air make it more bearable.

(Actually the thing I notice most about Perth after being in Melbourne is how damn bright the sun seems to be in Perth!)

Ah, so that's why people didn't want daylight savings
