A question for the insurance gurus. Why do I need to advise my home and contents insurance provider when I am doing renovations? The building insurance is arranged by the Body Corporate Secretary (i.e. me).

I received my renewal invitation and was so bored I actually read it! As I have major renovations planned in March ( two days after I return from Bangkok) I rang and the renos were noted. She then asked if I wanted to do an insurance check and with updated information the cost of the policy was decreased.

I'm having my bathroom and toilet completely gutted and replaced. They are original from when the place was built early 70s and the tiles are past their use by date.A little luxury is a heated towel rail. All new tiles, waterproofing etc.

I'm getting a large walk in shower installed and having the bath removed. Am also getting noggins put in for handrails so that they will be easy to fit when I'm old(er) and (even more) decrepit. The vanity will be wall hung so it is useful for my height rather than near my knees. The toilet will be raised (50 mm) again so it will be easier to use.

I've also arranged for a new oven to be installed by the plumber between bathroom work. She will be a busy plumber.

Can't answer your question but I'm also planning on having raised basin/bathroom cabinet and higher kitchen bench as I'm 5.11.

Many fires occur during Renos. Plus you are likely to leave the house unattended with builders in to do the work.

Thanks, that makes sense. I can see how it would increase the insurance risk. I'm using licensed tradespeople and will be on site during the renovations.

Poor babe. Hope you had the aircon on for him.:)
I did eventually - not a huge fan of aircon - I mean it is freezing for months in Canberra and then it finally gets warm and everybody tries to freeze me again. However I did concede that today was a bit toasty :)

As a follow-up. They were indeed on an Antarctic Cruise. The Falklands were the first stop and they were on an excursion to see penguins (West Falkland?) when it happened. He was taken by helicopter to the hospital on the main island but nothing could be done.

She was left behind when the vessel sailed and is now hoping to get a "lift" on the weekly RAF flight to the UK to be with their adult children back here. His remains will follow once the formalities are done - Coroners report etc.

The heartening thing that has come out of this is that the islanders and military personnel have been fantastic and have done everything possible to help and console her.

As a final follow-up. The RAF did find a seat for her to the UK - good on them. She is now on her way home and should be here tomorrow evening.

Geez, been a while. Poor woman.
I imagine she has just been in shock and not really thinking about much. It’s imteresting what shock does, it can be very protective. The feelings come in later.

Perth Scorchers did great tonight. Semi final may be at the new Optus Stadium in Perth next week.

As a 1st gen, from migrant parents, Marry Me, Marry My Family is an interesting watch.

Last week was horrific for the bride (mother was a narcisistic B who hated the marriage), this week its "I never thought I would allow a Maltese marry my daughter...". F you, shes not property! And hes too invested in his daughters virginity.

I know there is a cultural aspect but again, as a 1st genner who married outside my parents culture, I dont understand dragging all the old ways with you to a new country, when it inhibits the women from living her life independently.

I must be reading too many reports on US police brutality, shootings ect.

I was all, "Identify yourselves, no I won't get out of the car until you tell me why". Told told them I had a dash cam recording them. I actually have two cameras, one in the rear but only said one.

Over the top but they spooked me, running down the driveway and trying to open my door, yelling get out of the car. I'm 50 and fat, I'm not jumping for anyone these days.

Pity my car was off, no dash cam of them entering.

I admit I over reacted. I've been stopped before for randoms and always polite.

Yeah that is too over the top from them IMO. If they had walked over, introduced themselves and asked you to submit to a test, that would have been reasonable for me.

And Rod Laver is the worst venue to try and get in and out of. They're going to kill somebody the way they mismanage people flow.

True. Last night the entry foyers were packed. It was hot. Then the people trying to get out from the late session couldn’t get past those trying to get in (they shouldn’t have opened the foyer to incomings). People just could not move. It was airless. Then we were talking to a group of people who had been told to get to the Margaret Court arena by entering through the Laver arena. Wheelchair bound passengers were stuck as their lift wasn’t working. Once the paramedics opened one door then people could start to move. The final blow was starting the first event when people who had arrived well in time could not get into the venue and of course you aren’t allowed to enter during play.
