Friend flying SAA had a bad time.

Flight delayed then cancelled, no accommodation provided. Next day, delayed and eventually arrived but missed connection that was a different booking. Had to buy new ticket, another night accommodation out of pocket.

Finally on connecting flight, bad weather and when clouds cleared on landing no runway and about 100mtrs from ground, pull up and second attempt.

Pilot apologises, lots of tears and applauding on landing from pax.

First world problems.... originally booked on Emirates Syd-Akl.
EK cancel that route. Moved to QF 143 on the new metal - Ya!
Call last night we have been bumped to LAN 800
Flight 1 hour later, I knew QF would not be happy giving 6 J award seats away.
In the lounge now telling hubby about his SURPRISE Family Holiday to NZ.

They coming to pick up today.

A question for the insurance gurus. Why do I need to advise my home and contents insurance provider when I am doing renovations? The building insurance is arranged by the Body Corporate Secretary (i.e. me).

I received my renewal invitation and was so bored I actually read it! As I have major renovations planned in March ( two days after I return from Bangkok) I rang and the renos were noted. She then asked if I wanted to do an insurance check and with updated information the cost of the policy was decreased.

I'm having my bathroom and toilet completely gutted and replaced. They are original from when the place was built early 70s and the tiles are past their use by date.A little luxury is a heated towel rail. All new tiles, waterproofing etc.

I'm getting a large walk in shower installed and having the bath removed. Am also getting noggins put in for handrails so that they will be easy to fit when I'm old(er) and (even more) decrepit. The vanity will be wall hung so it is useful for my height rather than near my knees. The toilet will be raised (50 mm) again so it will be easier to use.

I've also arranged for a new oven to be installed by the plumber between bathroom work. She will be a busy plumber.

From my recall, there are a few reasons the insurance company wants to be informed about renovations: Just some
1/ security may be compromised 2/ water damage risks-walls or roof may be off 3/ house may be unoccupied & thus higher security risk (same as going away on holidays for over 60 days you may need to inform them) 4/ the value of the property can change a lot during the reno & your sum insured might end up inadequate

There is always a rbt stop near my house, I guess because a couple of streets away is a major road leading onto the motorway so this is easier to control.

Today I indicated, stopped and reversed into my driveway (lots of groceries to unload), looked up and police were running into my yard.

They thought I was avoiding the rbt and hiding in random house.

On the plus side, I have a very strong fight response. Didn't know that.

I must be reading too many reports on US police brutality, shootings ect.

I was all, "Identify yourselves, no I won't get out of the car until you tell me why". Told told them I had a dash cam recording them. I actually have two cameras, one in the rear but only said one.

Over the top but they spooked me, running down the driveway and trying to open my door, yelling get out of the car. I'm 50 and fat, I'm not jumping for anyone these days.

Pity my car was off, no dash cam of them entering.

I admit I over reacted. I've been stopped before for randoms and always polite.

Sadly police have to contain and control the situation very quickly especially where an unrestrained car is involved. There are scumbags ramming police vehicles on a daily basis. As you note it may appear that you were trying to avoid an RBT due to making a legitimate exit from the scene. But until confirmed you were potentially dangerous and needed to be stopped.

Did they ask you to do a breath test once you explained the situation?

Were they in uniform? If so why did you ask for identification?

Decided against the upgrade offer this time. Only one flight offered (CBR - MEL) and it's morning so nothing special.
Yes sometimes the offer is easy to refuse.I got one once for MCY-SYD which breathtakingly told me would include lounge access.
If there was a lounge at MCY I am sure my LTQC would get me in.

This is my first post on AFF with my new laptop, Lenovo Ideapad520 i7, I did have to spend about 6 hours updating the latest version of Windows 10 and then downloading the programs you use the most.

I still need to move the music files and pictures across; they are on a portable hard drive at the moment.

Went to his restaurant (temple of French food) outside of Lyon a few years back, L’Alberge. Was fabulous and he came out (or more correctly was semi wheeled out from his residence upstairs to greet each table, shake hands and have photos taken. Excellent night. Fab food.

Added excitement as French taxi drive back to Lyon at 110+ through the 50 zones.

Get yourself one of the new(ish) Samsung USB 500G SSD drives for backups and storage. Exceptionally quick.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you've said here, but I also think that @Denali has every right to ask to see a badge, just as much as they can require a breath test.
