I have always viewed it as the cost of being part of a developing society where we are provided services. Dont enjoy paying it but I also dont have sewage flowing down my street and/or children standing on street corners begging for alms (partly) because of taxes.
Agreed. Is there anyone who enjoys paying taxes? I have done my share of whinging over the years about the fiscal fiend with his hand in my pocket. However I want to live in a certain type of society I.e. one where everyone has access to health care and schooling and a safety net exists for those in need. (And yes that means some bludgers are going to get away with stuff but that’s the price you pay.).

I just don’t want to live in a country like the USA, where people seem comfortable that people will go bankrupt if they get a major illness or die because they can’t get anything more than a patchup job.

....Taxation is the “rent” we pay for societal infrastructure and security...

However I would like to distinguish the difference between a tax on productivity and consumption. I have always believed income tax to be iniquitous

Still property confiscation. I’m sure the ANC sees the resumption of farmland as contributing to something superior.

Most people I think understand the reason for taxation, however there is very little to show for it. A lot of it is spent on hare brained ideas with little social or financial returns. There is much expenditure that is not societal infrastructure...

unfortunately also true.....

Time for the air conditioner in Sydney today according to my SIL who is from Perth. How nasty is that humidity today?

With the Perth City Council having been suspended I don’t plan to vote for any councillor who decides to not stop their salary/salaries. I hope the three appointed commissioners are able to clean the place up.
The travel budget savings should be quite a bit.

I just left the office, expected it to be hotter.

So Blazing Saddles, inappropriate or OK for young tweens?

My issue isn’t tax. My issue is a tax on productivity

Yes assuming all taxes are necessary it should be on consumption not on production or effort.

Lots of people don’t want to work any more than their jobs require because others are paying for their costs so they can have their lifestyle.

....

Education is free so many parents of public school kids will not pay a cent while others are prevented for contributing even if they wanted. They just want others to pay for it. Same with health. Same with lots of other free stuff. They want it all for free but don’t want it free for others

Painted silos partly funded by council or arts, brings tourists who bring the money. New cafes, accommodation, petrol station ect. The dying town has a new income stream, artist gets greater commercial sales or attention.

But the first person who said, Let's paint a silo, would have been told they were stupid.

Speaking of Edinburgh Hilton Carlton, checking our bookings for the same hotel and I see the below. Upgrade 4 weeks out?

That's odd! Don't get too excited though, it just means a slightly bigger room with a couch in it. Exec rooms have couches in them too. Always nice to have slightly more space though.

In the UK, just go to M&S and buy a new six pack of underwear and Ts. Cheaper than washing.

But one would need some clean clothes in order to go out and get them in the first place ;) Was closed yesterday in any case.

Hmm these “attractions” are short lived. Not something that will attract return business. However at least the Mildura silos will have had some business case done - ie hoping they will attract 5% of the traffic. Not robust though.

Flash, please go to Pinnies and Poppies shortbread and report back. It's about a block away from you :)

I follow them on Instagram and she said they're open.
