When we are in the planning stages of a driving trip in the USA I make sure we stay at a HGI or a 4 Points at least once a week, as they usually have a guest laundry. On cruises we get free laundry on Silverseas and also at the SGS in BKK. :D

But the underwear cant be washed with the tshirts! The tshirts cant be washed with the jeans!

No... just, no!

That's what you think

I dont even let the colours and whites, tshirts & underwear mix on the laundry floor.

But I think my husband likes messing with me, more likely he simply doesnt care, because he ignores my designated segregation spots and theres anarchy when he puts his dirty clothes in the laundry.

I dont even wash his stuff with mine and visa versa.

For years I would just buy some trousers and casual shirts then tear off the tags to avoid laundry in California if I was travelling alone.
I never used the electric kettle for undies .....in fact I would never use a hotel room kettle.
Embassy Suites North did have a guest laundry near LAX.
These days I have a washing machine and dryer in Los Angeles. I still just hire a car.

Sounds like my place too :) I do lots of small loads !!

Interesting reading all the laundry trash talk.

I never take clothes on holidays that need ironing. MrP does. He likes wearing cotton shirts for dinner. Once I ironed his travel shorts in Venice. Dodgy iron. The shorts melted before my eyes, the only shorts he’d brought for a summer med cruise. Spent hours searching Venice for cotton and needles. Finally went into a dressmaker where she sold me some for 8 euro. Desperate times. Of course they were his favourite shorts. When we got home I found a patch that ironed  on and that lasted for another couple of years. This year I’ve repatched them again. Four years later. It just looks like his shorts have had a large skin cancer removed but he can’t see them so he doesn’t care. Did I mention they were his favourites?

I’m an in the sink washer if I have time. If not and I can last then all the washing stuff is put into a separate ikea bag - double zip lock. I’ve got a hard sided suitcase and one half gets dedicated to shoes, odd size stuff and dirty clothes. The clean stuff is separated by the zipped flap.

Second thoughts now.
There will be few complaints from certain quarters - isn’t taxation another form of property confiscation?

Which is the way the carpetbaggers did it in the South after the American Civil War. Raise the taxes on a plantation they coveted, when the owners couldn’t pay, you scooped it up...

Wowser. £25 laundry charge for a few pairs of underwear, socks and my jeans.
I must admit I am too stingy to pay hotel laundry charges. I generally take laundry powder with me and wash undies by hand. Laundromats are easy to find and do a big wash once or twice through a trip. Of course in your case with an unexpected stranding it is worth it.

Laundry is in my budget, I refuse to spend thousand (or save thousands with reward seats/upgrade ect) and spend my free time doing the laundry.
I really don’t mind going to laundromats - you meet such interesting people :). Generally we have a lot of slack built into our travel, so I don’t mind taking a couple of hours to sit and read a book and chat to people. Being a busybody, I often end up explaining to other tourists how to use the machines and then we get chatting about their travels.

Africa is great as the lodges include free laundry - which they almost have to do as you are restricted to 15 to 20 kg on the internal planes! Given Mr FM takes all of his allowance with camera gear, we don’t have a lot of spare clothing! However it is wonderful to send it all off every morning and have it back that afternoon all beautifully ironed!

The usual (Hilton Edinburgh Carlton) - I wonder if BA would cover the cost of laundry (they have said they will cover the room cost...), I guess there's always travel insurance as well.
Speaking of Edinburgh Hilton Carlton, checking our bookings for the same hotel and I see the below. Upgrade 4 weeks out?

Clipsal 500 car race. The only thing I like about it is these. Taken from backyard as I was hiding from Jehovahs Witnesses. Ha. They are banging on the front door right now.

Tomorrow I’ll be better prepared.

Spotted this on a fellow walkers t-shirt this morning: “Surely not everybody could have been Kung Fu fighting” :D

In the UK, just go to M&S and buy a new six pack of underwear and Ts. Cheaper than washing.

I dont shop unless its online, hence the Tesco Click & Collect on day two/when we get our car and head out.

Argos is next door to the Hilton, thinking of ordering a comfy camp chair so I can sit and chill under a tree/read while hes climbing hills and wandering castles

Edit: And new, just out of the packet, undies should be washed before wearing them.

No. Taxation is the “rent” we pay for societal infrastructure and security.

However I would like to distinguish the difference between a tax on productivity and consumption. I have always believed income tax to be iniquitous

I have always viewed it as the cost of being part of a developing society where we are provided services. Dont enjoy paying it but I also dont have sewage flowing down my street and/or children standing on street corners begging for alms (partly) because of taxes.
