Don't think people have said you have to 'avoid' GW. Think it's mostly to do with how busy it is and as a result how it can be hard to get into places or book transport. Lots of people love the excitement and vibe though.

It depends so much on where you are and which direction you're moving. I always find it much easier than usual to get into my favourite Tokyo restaurants. I also spent a few days in Kobe this year and found it quieter than it would normally be.

If I were to avoid any particular time, it would probably be Chinese New Year.

Some people call it nagging - others reminding. I think it's great to have an equal in a relationship, yes there is always discussion about decisions that need to be made - often the person with the most knowledge is best to ultimately make the decision.

Reminds me of Jordan Peterson's point that women are becoming more assertive and I think that's a huge positive for society. Men have exerted their dominance for too long. When their position gets challenged, they only understand one way...

This is an excellent Jordan Peterson episode.

The New Year period is very busy I know. We didn’t actively avoid GW this time; it just happened that the friend I’m going with couldn’t go until early June. Bit of a random pick really.

You need better friends :D

It was day 4 in Japan that I said I cant do anymore rice and I dont eat most sushi/raw foods. I didnt think I was a fussy eater until I went to Japan and China. I dont run but I did practically sprint to a KFC at Nara once.
I must admit, the time before last we were there, by the last breakfast poor MrLtL couldn’t even face rice. The only thing he wanted was a hamburger!

You'll have a great time. The rainy season (in Tokyo) starts on June 8 on average, but it's not usually too bad until deep in June or early July when things really start heating up.

I remember in Cambodia and needing pasta - ended up finding a expat restaurant with lasagna.

Funny cravings when youre travelling. We flew SYD-LAX-ATL-SCL-IPC (Easter Island) and the first thing I wanted to do was go to a grocery store so I could make pesto chicken and rice at our cabin for dinner and alone time.

I know it’ll be great. Have been to Japan quite a few times over the years in all seasons. July was fine even though hot and a bit humid.

A great dane as a service dog inside the cabin? I thought they had to fit in a dog bag and fit under the seat, its a great dane!

Those rules don’t apply to service dogs as I understand it, just to normal pets you are taking with you. Apparently they are going to tighten the rules on service animals, as people were taking increasingly bizarre pets with them and claiming they were service animals :)

In the owners defense, they are both deaf so it seems to be a true service dog but a great dane is a interesting choice.

My brother has an Irish wolfhound and thats the size of a kiddy pony and great danes are bigger.

More to the point, people were going online and for, say $25, were getting "service animal" kits for their dogs etc. and taking the pets on board to avoid the fees when taken as cargo.

Not only that but to ensure that their 'precious babies' could travel with them and stay anywhere.

Just been to the dentist for an extraction. Fun! But relatively easy as the tooth was no longer embedded in the jaw and was quite loose. Waiting for the anaesthetic to wear off now.

Yikes. Did you get a prescription for panadeine forte to help you get to sleep tonight?
Nah, I'm tough! Ordinary Panadol will do the trick. Considering the tooth was barely hanging on I'm not expecting too much drama. It had also had root canal and extra filling in the (distant) past so not much real tooth left I think.
