And, follow the advice from the Fire Brigade - change your smoke alarm batteries.

(PS. Also, make sure that your smoke alarm actually is still ok. They do have working life limits that are normally marked on the rear of the alarm).

Don't even ask me about smoke alarms... in my place there's 4 within a 2 metre radius and right at the edge of the kitchen .. every time you cook, they go off.

Stop burning your food :p

Just kidding - that is rather annoying, however (smoke alarms in odd positions, not burning cooking)

Just found out my best mate is on life support in a critical but stable condition. Pondering best way of getting home...

That's terrible news to receive when so far away. Suggest go for the most direct, least hassle option, putting price in third place in the criteria list.

Take care. Hope your mate improves soon.

V sorry to hear that :(
A plane would probably be best; because they're not family you may not have much luck with compassionate fares. Looks like QF have a ridiculously good fare departing tomorrow and returning in 7 days (LHR-PER) for GBP 806 or thereabouts.

My dilemma is I'm on a training course this week that I've shelled out a lot of money for. Not sure what to do.

Tough decision to make, I don't envy you one bit. Maybe call the training provider and see if they can help in any way? (i.e., can they slot you in to a later course?)

Have just e-mailed them, their office is currently closed so can't call.

Horrible news to receive flashware. Especially when you are so far away from home.

Hopefully the people who run the course for you are compassionate and you make it home...I hope it works itself out for you and you get back.

Good to hear flashware. Hopefully you can get on the big red bird home quickly!

Just had a conversation with Flashware and his immediate options of interest are either the big red bird in Y or EK in J.

It still behooves me how much cheaper airfares are from Europe to Australia, even on a last minute basis. Damn market sizing dynamics.

Good news, they're bringing him out of sedation later today. Still pondering my options.. not sure if I should or not, there's probably not too much I could do anyway.

Interesting use of the word 'behooves'.

Thanks - I thought I knew how to use it; seems I'm quite wrong.

So allow me to restate:

That's excellent news - hope he's walking and talking fairly soon.

It behooves me to say that sounds much better :p

Never copy and paste then edit a sentence. Rewrite it, dammit.

We really need a better smiley for errors than ; something more looking like "DO'H!" would be more appropriate right now.
