In all fairness I do not think my post on 18 Jan should be considered a 'BUMP'! Technically anyway....

Good to see you back in the off-topic thread JohnK...between the 3 or 4 of us regulars, we'll keep it ticking along....

Is it just me, or does this whole site keep going off the air for hours at a time?

Happened again Sunday evening (aus time) ..??

I was away in Malaysia the last couple of weeks, and generally could not get to the site.

I have alsoo noticed that the site has been unavailable several times in the last few weeks. Some of the downtime has been for several hours at a time.

Hopefully AFF isn't catching the FT disease

Is anyone else receiving ping/trackbacks that reference certain threads on this board??

This is an example of the type of messages that I receive:

Dear Shano,

A new Ping/Trackback has been recorded for a thread you have participated entitled - November lounge meetings - in the November 2006 forum of The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community.

This Ping/Trackback is located at: <snip>
It looks like this is a form of SPAM originating from somewhat less than salubrious sites.

Is there a way to stop this?

I like spam, roll it in crumbed saos and deep fry it in chicken fat and serve it with pickles on a rye roll.

Was it for a thread you have subscribed to?

Yes, and the pingback / trackbacks are all from the same thread "November Lounge Meetings"

My favourite thread is the stuff you get in the sewing kits at hotels. I am always having to replace a button when I travel and these are invaluable.

Then why dont you just unsubscribe?
Ahh, yes, that would be the simplest solution, however I was curious as to why this is occuring and why just this one thread.

I will unsubscribe and see if I receive any further pingbacks for other threads.

Seems to me that by introducing an genuine topic to this off-topic topic, you are seriously off-topic. Let's keep this off-topic thread off-topic.

Apologies for taking the off-topic thread on-topic, although isn't taking a thread titled off-topic on-topic actually going off-topic and therefore keeping in line with the off-topic nature of the thread???? ;)

I realised after I posted that I should have posted in the forum software thread

So it is off-topic after all, which makes it on topic for this thread, which makes it off topic also.
