I have run Lenovo hardware tests, ...
If its a Lenovo laptop, then you have a few options when it comes to a fresh install/rebuild.

The original Lenovo OS build from its pre-installed software will have the tools installed to build your own re-install set of CDs to take it back to a factory fresh OS load.

If the tools to built a fresh install-set are not there or cannot be run, you can call Lenovo Tech Support and have them post you an install-set. They will charge a nominal fee for postage and media. Last time I requested an install-set (T60 I think it was), it cost me about $60 and arrived in a few days as 7 x CDs. This allows you to install as if shipped direct from the factory. In fact, just last week I reinstalled my old T61 back to Windows XP as it shipped form the factory, then applied all the windows updates and reinstalled necessary apps and it was ready for the kids to use for homework etc.

Just offered a work trip to Paris except it's on the bank holiday and I'm away visiting the Lake District :( doh!

If you're paying for AV, I quite like KIS (Kaspersky). Norton is still a pig. Its last decent year was 02/03.

The corporate version of Norton (Symantec Endpoint Protection) is actually pretty decent; it's what we run on our corporate SOE. Hasn't once irritated me. Backup Exec on the other hand..

Unfortunately that's the solution we sell here, too. It's rubbish!

Has always been a lot of issues between SEP & Bloomberg, too, although that's finally been resolved in the latest update.

It probably hasn't really irritated you as it's not doing too much ;) Is it the new hosted SEP product, or the traditional version? Either way, they're both not really all that good...

I see straitman has parked his boat in DRW on lease to customs:

Wonder how the Customs Dash 8s go landing on it at sea.

Here is another view:

It's Friday but I am not at work today, Went to the RNA show, Brisbane Ekka where some parts have changed but other parts have stayed the same, just all the prices went up.

My mum is a dog breeder so I am helping looking after 6 basset hounds.

Had "one of those days" at BigW today.

Decided to buy a wish card. So collect it from the shelf and walk to the only manned checkout. Get asked "How much?". I say "$xx_".

Jaw dropped a little. "Oh, and you want to pay that on credit card?". Yes. "Not cash"?

The staffer tottles from the checkout to their supervisor and asks whether a gift card can be paid for by CC. They agree that it can, and walk back over.
Next question "Do you have an Everyday rewards card?". Both supervisor and me chime in advising that it's a moot point as you don't get points on GC purchases. look of surprise from staffer. Supervisor explains about how it would be double dipping.

Rather painful for what should have been a very simple transaction. Must be a new staffer!!

Had a strange experience at the bank today with Shrek, financial planner getting us to update life insurance etc. Asks would you like payments to come from your account or CC, Shrek says account will be fine, I say " Are you mad??? What about all those FF points?"
Needless to say they will be debited from the CC ;)

Some people just don't get it. A few months ago I had a mcdonalds staff member tell me they didn't accept Amex and then ask her supervisor if they did. "dont know.. Try it and see and if it errors we dont!" All I wanted was a coffee!

In other news not looking forward to leave at 5am for my 7am flight tomorrow!

Arrived in Noosa this evening for the weekend....guess who got RBT twice this evening? Very happy and relieved that I only had 1 glass of wine at the QP at T2 Sydney before the flight. Got to check out the Virgin lounge, including Premium entry, at Sydney, and have to say very impressed, Virgin!!

*Woof*

How did they go Bundy Bear?

Not that good, although one of our friends from Adelaide who is up for the show did win Best of Breed, so it wasn't a complete lose.

Off to Sydney tomorrow to compete in the City2Surf race on Sunday am, don't think I have practiced enough but still hoping to finish the 14 kms in under 100 minutes.

Here's an question...

For those who don't know, my partner is DJ Cabin crew.

About 5 times this week he has received Facebook friend requests from passengers wanting to catch up for coffee, or generally hitting on him.

Obviously, staff can't act on this. I wouldn't dream of hitting on Cabin Crew either.

Has anybody every hit on a Flight Attendant? Be it on the flight, or tracking them down via some other Social Media?

Just tonight this came in...

hi ,<name removed>,
i was on your flight the other day, got your surname from your ID card, I wanted to catch up for coffe or something
cheers,

<name removed>

Thoughts? Should I find him down and beat him up in a dark alley?

(Those who know me know that would never happen!)

Well we all know about the infamous JQ case. Also ... "weather"? Pun? :P

Given my ability for dating men who later turn out to be gay, I think hitting on a FA would be pretty useless

I think tracking down your FA on facebook is either a massive compliment or tending towards the creepy... and I'm inclined to side more with the latter. I've only met one in my travels that would be appropriate to catch up with outside of the plane, and he was a gloriously camp young guy on JQ who was in the reverse facing jump seat overwing facing me, so we had a fair bit of time to chat - most of which he spent asking me 'How realistic is ____ in Grey's Anatomy". I pointed out probably just as realistic as 'Mile High' and other shows, although I guess in light of THOSE CX pics that might not be a gret example anymore...
