Just watched My Kitchen Rules for the first time tonight. Any of you that watched tonight would've seen the two friends blunder through a decent entree (I missed watching this part) followed by a far-too-long-to-prepare and poor main and finalised by a dubiously inedible dessert.
It makes me think that this show is far removed from actually show casing any cooking or cooking skill. It is more like Survivor or Big Brother - simply seeing what people's reactions are like, particularly when you inject that competitive / cutthroat spirit. It's a war waged with death stares, silent back stabs and schadenfreude. Basically like putting a bunch of animals in a cage and poking them with a stick until they all kill each other with a sole survivor. The "stick" in this case is the cooking and judging.
There's more pleasure in seeing failure and people blow up about things than actually seeing praise, support or encouragement. What a society we have become.
