And only a Queenslander would care about State of Origin.

No one remembers who won the State of Origin in 1972 but many remember who won the Grand Final that year. In fact I can remember Grand Final winners of most years since the 50's and I was not born until the 60's.

The AFL got it right. Can't wait for this silly concept to be relegated to the pre-season or post-season. Jeopardises the chances of many teams trying to win the most important title.

JohnK State of Origin didn't start until 1980 however if there was a match in 1972 QLD would have won.

PS I couldn't tell you who won the grand final in 1972 either.

Just watched the state of origin on the internet at the Hilton KL executive lounge....so close but alas....:(

Who won the HandEgg game?

Sent from an Android device, it leaves a less fruity aftertaste.

No State of Origin. It was state of residence in those days and Queensland had won something like 3 games in 50 years which is why they went to state of origin instead.

But it does not matter. Just like it does not matter which state wins the cricket. Or the baseball. Or the soccer. Or the netball.

Manly! And I could tell you the opposition and the score. ;)

There was no NRL or AFL grand final in 1972!

While it was state of residence it was irrelevant. They changed it to Origin and it isn't.

Anyway, John, has the league been the same since Newtown left?

As Fatty Vautin once said, there are only two kinds of people: Queenslanders & those who would like to be! Still rings true.

I have heard the same quote in similar context about being Australian... Without being too patriotic.. Political & social correctness 'says" we shouldn't be or overly display it.. Congrats to QLD..

When I used to collect ABBA cards & footy cards I had one for Newtown's John Ribot-de-Bresac & Phil 'Gus' Gould - a couple of blasts from the past.

But Penfolds made a great Grange that year. I managed to buy a dozen at $9.99 per bottle in the late 70's when ( I think Tooheys ) bought Penfolds and dumped the entire Grange stock onto the market

I bet that makes into the "great business decisions" handbook

As a Victorian, it makes me laugh how you northerners get into your league. Here is a pic of Dave Taylor. Apologies to NSW fans.

As opposed to Victorians getting into AFL?

I'll never forget being in a train packed full of people leaving the season opening game in 1999, which was between 2 teams other than hawthorn. There was a guy who came from the game and who was done up in all his Hawks gear going on about how the Hawks were going to have a great season. They hadn't even played yet!

Be sure to get your electrician to check the thermostat is working before you let the plumber sell you a new OT water system!!

plumber, quote for new system $600 - $1200, depending on size. And he was at the ready to take it away right THEN, & replace.
Electrician, new thermostat, around $ 18.75

It was the thermostat - ants had mucked it up. New one installed by the plumber ... including callout fee, labour, etc, it was $180!

But I was able to have a hot shower this morning!! :D

You are not getting any argument from me.

I used to like going to Henson Park amongst other suburban grounds like Belmore Sports Ground (which is literally about 300 metres from my house), Redfern Oval, Lidcombe Oval, coughberland Sports Ground, Sydney Sports Ground, Leichhardt Oval etc.

I believe it went downhill around the time Super League got involved....

Finally! This report we've been working on might be ready to be delivered tomorrow.

It's been more analyses on top of more analyses. Don't know if you've ever done something and then it doesn't quite work out or you need to investigate something else, so you do further analyses on those analyses and... to cut a long story short... you're torn between handling scope creep and time pressure?

After this, I still have a presentation to work on for a conference on next week! Argh!!!!!

Is today Thursday or Friday?

Flights delays everywhere. I am a jinx!
