The totally off-topic thread

Gentlemen (and laddies, if there are any reading & posting), I am sorely disappointed in your lack of attention to this thread today...is it up to me single handedly to try to ressurect this thread :?: ... with the Amex thread getting quite a head start this aftenoon...

Who cares what POC stands for anyway?????

Person of concern
Person on crystalmeth (I can think of some possibilities)
Private or Constable
(I can think of a couple of rude ones, but decorum and the program here will not allow me to repeat them....)

Truthfully, I couldn't give a rats what POC stood for :)

Person of Concern (to Amex)
Pretty Obvious C0c*-up (not sure if the word I meant to say should be allowed here)
Promotion Over-earn Control
Protecting our Cashflow.

I have to agree.

admin rang me yesterday afternoon. Seems he was changing servers and had expected it to take only a couple of hours in the morning, but it took longer. Then, depending on which ISP provider you use, some of them weren't pointing to the new server (whatever that means) - so I couldn't do any moderation yesterday as mine was still showing the message yesterday @ 5pm. Oh dear, now to go and check out the explosion of posting that's probably happened over there...
I could log on again last night but not today.

Only after some emails to/from admin did I realise that the forum was in fact up and running. Only after deleting cookies etc and rebooting my computer did I manage to get back on the forum.

I wonder how many others lost souls are still out there. :(

I could only get on mid-afternoon today, and then it was as slow as...

you missed the option that you might get points but be capped :)
Same same if you take the 'all' out of the statement. You will either get the points or you won't. I am not in the country right now so could not care less. More important things to worry about in life....

Well, I've given up on reading the AMEX thread; too much rubbish there and just don't simply have the time. As it is, only just got home from work after having left home at 6.30 this morning :shock:
Well I have not looked at the Amex thread since Monday, 4 days ago, and I think I am 400-500 posts behind. I may just mark the thread as read an not bother reading the garble....

Wow. I just found this thread. Seeing it goes for 89+ pages, would anyone who has been following it from the beginning care to summarise it for me? :)
A whole lot of fun and provides unseful information as opposed to the Amex thread....

Word of the week:
  • unseful
Meaning? - my guess is On topic off topic advice that may be applied to every day situations ... whether appropriate to the circumstance or not :p

Whatever unseful information means, we know that JohnK, as originator of the phrase, has decreed that there is none in the Amex thread. :)

To be fair John you are not impacted by the amex promo if you are out of the country - people spending here now are impacted hence for them it is of relevance.

It would be like a debate around DJ giving away 2for 1 flights - I dont need or want DJ flights so would not care about the promo - I would also not belittle people who did care about it.

Sadly some people did manage to find there way back though :(

I'm just thankful I dont have Amex otherwise it would have been the 4th one of their cards I would have had to cut up and send back!

I think that there's a certain amount of hysteria in the Amex thread that you can just drop anything in there and people will jump on it.

You could completely make something like "I just called Amex and spoke to a Customer Service Rep there - they told me that because of the ongoing abuse, they've decided to invoke the T&Cs for Membership Rewards and cease the MYREWARD promotion from today - you'll get points for what you've spent, but it will all be over from the end of today. Everyone will get emails or letters in the post next week."

And then you would see the post count go up!

(Note, I'm not advocating doing this - there's enough misinformation in that thread - it doesn't need anyone making it worse!).

I thought that the funniest thing about the whole "POC" hysteria was that someone, without even knowing what POC means, had already turned it into a verb: someone talked about whether they'd been "POCked" or not.
