I had one of my Facebook "friends" who I worked with in South Australia, make a comment along the lines of "39? come on brisbane harden up, we had 40+ for a month in Adelaide." Now I'm not even sure if that is correct as I know that was a record for OLP, so I doubt it would be for Adelaide. Anyway, I mentioned the humidity factor and they just didn't seem to get it. Needless to say I'm frustrated by the lack of basic weather knowledge.

People who don't understand the impact of humidity on heat are idiots.

By the way, I recall a ridiculous run of 40+ days in Adelaide, and I was there towards the end of it. Four years ago? I can't be bothered looking it up.

But 40C with 10% humidity is far easier to bear than 35C with 50% humidity.

I didn't want to say it, being nice. I won't share the story about why they weren't going to have children. ;)

I remember my FiL telling me about a january with the max everyday being over 40. I thought it was my last January living in OLP. I really don't think Adelaide could have had such a record, maybe every day over 35. Oodnadatta has the australian record on 50.7

Actually 15 days above 35 in 2008. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Adelaide

I know what you mean about the dry heat having lived out near Woomera. My first year there I was wearing jeans to work during summer no worries at all. Back to Brissy for christmas and I was dying in 28 degrees.

Adelaide had a few heatwaves a few years back. Wasn't a month but did record above 35 for a fortnight.

To be fair, today wasn't really humid. Hot, but not awfully sticky. It's like putting a fully defrosted, room temperature chicken in the oven.

Going in and out of the glacial air conditioning today, it was almost like a Swedish sauna experience in reverse.

Having experienced a summer with 40 degC days in PER in 2006-2007, it is definitely a lot more tolerable than a humid BNE in low 30s. This is especially true if you're required to wear heavy-material long sleeves and long pants for work.

Line drying laundry in dry PER heat takes 3 hours at most. The same thing in BNE humid heat takes at least twice as long.

Agreed. I saw Tim Minchin there and loved the venue and the performance.

Have been lucky to catch Sting and more recently Lady Antebellum there this year, leaves the bigger venues for dead. The State in Sydney is comparable, enjoyed the Coors there in 98.

Yeah I found it, 15 days in January 2008 over 35, not that hot really. 2009 had a shorter term record, possibly involving 3 or 4 40+ days. The most I could find from Roxby downs was a January with 26 or 28 days over 35 and all but 4 of those days over 40. the last few days in that January were around the 33 to 37 mark.

Yeah, it's a good sized theatre. Any bigger and you have to put up with the hopeless acoustics of a sports arena.

Yes, as I thought 4 or so years ago. But as dry as a McLaren Vale Shiraz. ;)

OK Katie I have just spent 10 hours and walked 20kms helping mrsdrron shop here in Dallas. She said it was all worthwhile as she saved over a $1000 so look at it as though I worked for $100 an hour.
Great effort, team! ;)

Bugger! It looks like we will have to cancel our European adventure next year because I doubt a new employer will blithely agree to a 2 month holiday so soon after starting. I rang Velocity and was told that there was a $60 fee for changing the flights, but haven't had the heart to ask about the cost of a cancellation. I will lose several thousand dollars cancelling pre-paid tours (but get back around $12,000), and will probably not get back my booking at La Jules Verne.

Of course I could not take a new job until after May, when our planned trip finishes, and can afford to do this. But I'm currently climbing up the wall without a job.

Bugger.

Oh I should add, I booked J flights for two with points. I assume I will get most of them back, but again, haven't had the heart to enquire.
