I almost feel sorry for him as his shares now sell below the net tangible asset level as he has not "got it" yet.
Retail in Australia needs rents to be halved and wage penalties need to be restructured to get us back to buying competitively in Australia. That drift away from Australian retailers is growing quickly.
Go to an Australia Post parcel delivery window after 5.00 pm and the line is more massive than at Macy's cash register when they have a sale running.

Everyone has had their snout in the overcharging consumers trough for a long time. Landlords, local govt rates,, suppliers, importers, distributors, etc.

There's a bit to unwind to get the fairly high embedded costs that are part and parcel of doing business on this country.

At least a few retailers are looking at what they call global price harmonisation. It's going to take a while to het there though.

I am not sure the importers have their snout in the trough too much, when you look at bringing in a product you need to meet local laws and that has significant costs that affect the landed price, the grey marketers skirt those laws by drop shipping and thus save the $$$, making more profit yet selling the same product for less. For instance a product that will interface with a telco network needs to be A ticked, C ticked and have electrical safety approval, as well as having a local Australian sleeved AC power cord supplied, when you submit a product for A tick approval, if it fails you dont get told why nor get a refund on the fee and the process takes up to 3 months. I would suggest the red tape is the biggest cost, and lets not forget the legitimate importers pay local tax including GST as well.

There are also suppliers that have different pricing for the same product at wholesale level for different countries when they leave the plant, that does not help matters either.

Welcome to living in a developed country!

We are going to the National Australia Bank Annual General Meeting and it should be better than going to a movie. Shareholders get the chance to get the MD and Board of Directors squirm in their seats as they explain the almost 10 mil pay package.
I hope they let the press in.

This is the problem I have running a business; people complain the price is too high, but having to buy through a distributor means my wholesale cost is a lot higher than OS...

Tony's tip of the day:

VicRoads, why not set up a website with photographs of broken down vehicles. That way dim witted Victorian drivers can log in and have a good look before getting into their cars in a morning. I'm sure this will help traffic flow because there would be no need to slow down and look at broken down vehicles on the daily commute....thus not adding 45 minutes onto my journeys from the airport.

:p

What about the traffic report on the radio?

Company Christmas party tonight.. we've booked out four restaurants in the Rocks, and have apparently cordoned off an area around them capable of fitting 2,500 of us.

Food and drinks provided. Should be fun if not a little crowded! :)

And meanwhile we're paying through-the-roof prices for mobile and broadband :o

Just kidding... but don't be surprised if such an article made TT or ACA. Maybe advise to check for undercover reporters :)

Not allowed in unless you have a staff photo ID card (and are registered for the party), or are the pre-registered guest of someone with one.

I suspect security will be tight.

Few delays and cancellations ex MEL tonight - J lounge is getting uglier. Bad seat choice next to some guys that epitomize what people perceive about the QP - lound, boorish, swigging back drinks, swearing. No hi viz - union bosses it seems... Not exactly dispelling stereotypes...

Sorry about your delays but I am not travelling today.

But I do know what you mean. Some people should not go out in public....

Sitting in PER, my first DJ flight in years..and not leaving a good impression. Have had two gate changes, and apparently now they have no plane. If they dont' get off the groun din the next 30mins, they wont make the SYD curfew..

Its the lack of information thats the most frustrating.."Tarmac congestion" being the last excuse they used. I dont understand how thats an issue if they don't have a plane yet..
