Sitting in PER, my first DJ flight in years..and not leaving a good impression. Have had two gate changes, and apparently now they have no plane. If they dont' get off the groun din the next 30mins, they wont make the SYD curfew..

Its the lack of information thats the most frustrating.."Tarmac congestion" being the last excuse they used. I dont understand how thats an issue if they don't have a plane yet..

I flew out of KTA on QF on Tuesday evening, a 16:30 flight. There was also a evening DJ flight, which appeared to have continuous delays announced.

I recall hearing over the PA in the departures lounge just as we were boarding that the DJ flight would be delayed until 11:30!!!!

If I were on that DJ flight I would of been PISS3D!

Off to the cricket on boxing day. I've wanted to goto boxing day for a long time

Oh, it's a fantastic day. Sadly my boys have all grown up and aren't interested in going to the Boxing Day Test with their old man. It used to me an annual ritual.
The rest of the Test will be poorly attended though.

Is it too logical to wait for the people getting out of the lift first before trying to get in?

I am honestly surprised how some people have managed to get this far in life....

They've lived this long because it is illegal to kill them.

I am finding the enjoyment of Melbourne trains where people try to get on before I get off. Fortunately I am big enough to continue walking so they have to back off. Helps that I am currently dressing down as it were. :)

Yep thats the ole Sydney Curfew effect.

Well they did in the end cancel my flight. told us to ring the DJ Customer service number in a few hours time to find out which flights they will trasnfer us onto. I know that the Red-Eye out of PErth tonight is fully sold ot for both DJ and QF. They will try to arrange accommodation for those not from Perth. It was the lack of announcements that p'eed me off the most, nothing until "cancelled".

And the other odd aspect, The ground crew were clueless about which gate and which plane was going to SYD, another A330 arrives (late also), they had the SYD bound crew ready and waiting, both the SYD and MEL passengers waiting at the same gate (!), but they decided to load the plane up for the MEL flight, knowing that SYD has a curfew???

I contacted my travel organiser, and they've got me in a hotel in perth CBD and a QF flight out in the morning..Thanks DJ it was nice to have had the opportunity to try you out, but you failed.

Don't forget the trams!

Europeans seem to get this whole wait on the side for disembarking pax before one attempts to get on. Even the Brits get it.

Ditto that in Japan. Other Asian countries .... mixed bag.

Easiest way, unfortunately so, as a disembarking person (from transport or a lift) is to simply assume the initiative, i.e. step towards the door as it opens so that the people outside clearly can see you are going forward. Do not wait for the doors to open completely first and then make a move. As disembarking pax have the initiative in such a situation, you have the right to move and shove people out of the way as necessary.

Despite the poor etiquette in Australia, I have not witnessed too many incidents where the ability of elderly, pax with prams / young children, disabled pax has been thoughtlessly hindered by others, which is heartening to see. In fact, more often than not (at least in Brisbane), when pax with prams are disembarking from trains where the step is not level with the platform, often complete strangers will step up to help in moving the pram smoothly from train to platform.

And this is where the Brits have us well covered. It takes about a microsecond to realise you have to stand to the left on escalators. Escalator etiquette (lack of) annoys me more in Oz.

What's the deal in Blighty?

You drive on the left side of the road, but I'm sure that I've seen signs in the tube stations saying "Keep to the right".

As for walking on the footpath, that's anyone's guess. I will vouch though, wherever you are in the world, trying to keep to the 'local convention' is really difficult. Walking into a pedestrian stream is not the same as turning your car into a main road.

In Sydney my experience of boarding and alighting from lifts and trains suggests a racial stereotype for the worst offenders for this thing. I won't say which race but they do seem to be very pushy people.

Germany has keep right on escalators. Or more precisely Right stay, Left go.

I won't say which race .

Sort of an interesting spin on "I'm not a racist but...". Far out Town Hall station at 8 am is a debacle these days. You really do wonder in a event of something serious like an evacuation ...how on Earth would they do it? Total shmozzle.

I think I could have a good guess who they may be.

Well, in cases like this, all that matters is you get out alive. Everyone else is collateral.

Brutal, but them's the breaks.

On top of that, I'm sure (on the threat of violating standards or general ostracism) that people who design public buildings or areas where those who patronise said premises rarely practice evacuation procedures have incorporated contingencies to ensure that an evacuation is possible despite any undisciplined individuals.

In fact, ironically enough, an aircraft is probably one of the key "violations" of this principle, i.e. most people on board, even after a safety briefing, are sorely underprepared to handle an emergency evacuation, and yet a successful evacuation of an aircraft critically relies on all participants to be able to effectively act.

It's not spin at all. I've noticed a pattern, that is my experience. It doesn't make me a racist to mention that I've noticed a pattern. I certainly don't hold a negative view of the people, I accept that is their culture.

Your experience might vary. But that does not give you any right to call me racist. I do not appreciate your accusation at all.

Yes they try that stunt on the trains as well. And you know how big I am so I just stand at the door and look at them until they clear a path for me.

Some people are just weird and want everything their way all the time.

If it is who I think it is they are also loud and arrogant without fail everywhere I encounter them.

Depends where you are.In Japan if you are not moving stand to the left.In Bangkok it is stand to the right.
And why do people stop when they get to the bottom of an escalator?or stop in an open doorway blocking access?
And on this trip I am reaching my limit of people trying to get in an elevator before everyone gets out,or in Bangkok the train.
And I am game to say it-the Chinese have no ideas re queues and push and shove. That is the way they are.Interesting article in the Bangkok Nation newspaper this morning about finishing schools in Beijing teaching people how to act when they go overseas so they are aware.

I've privately had words with some of you already. To those whom I've not just a quick note to let you know I will lurk in the background but won't actively be contributing on here for a little while.

Merry Christmas and all the best for 2013 to all.

Hope to see you in February,April and July/August of 2013 Flashware as I need to learn some East Londoner words so I fit in better.
After the NAB Annual General Meeting all I seemed to think of was a word that rhymed with banker. Too bad they missed the opportunity to buy BankWest.
Flashware enjoy the cooler weather while we clean up a chunk of our southwest after a hundred year rain event.
