The totally off-topic thread

Thought i'd give Admin a quick giggle if he reads the visitor logs. Currently browsing AFF on my TV via Internet Explorer on an Xbox.

Gee that will be amazing - not....

My SmartTV lets me do that - but I just don't bother as I can browse the web is so many different other ways eg my laptop, my iPad, my iPhone - so whats the big news that I will be able to go to my XBOX360 - which is only used as a Windows Media Center extender these days - and browse the web?

Beta it may be - but yet another Microsoft innovation that is catch up and superfluous

Microsoft need to find a way to sue Samsung for a billion dollars - that's where there next billion will come from

Makes me wonder what Apple are going to do with yet another billion in the bank?

The spam I am receiving has just about trippled in the past few days.

Doc Bilal Maloney - We can help you save
Doc Cassandra McNabb - No More failures in bed
Doc Kaitlin McMillan - We can give you your teenage dreams
Doc Haley Rodgers - We can offer you better life
Doc Yadira Jones - All the meds you need
Doc Lilly Ramos - We can offer you better life

Looks like the work of one person/scam artist. Something I haven't seen before but perhaps they have upped their spam campaigns.

Do these people actually think that I would buy something off them giving them access to my address and credit card details? Yeah right....

You, maybe not. But it's just a numbers game, and out of all the people they spam, someone, somewhere will fall for it.

+1 There is some horrible viruses and bacteria going around and we have been inundated at work with elderly and frail patients.

Ditto slightly further south, with many sick frail elderly but also many many young people who should know better than to present to ED with a virus. Some delightful worried-well presenter to Emergency gave me the virus which felled me for the past 6 days - all days off, boo! Now over the worst of it but have no voice bar a husky croak = if you come to an Emergency Dept in the next week and the doctor's half of the consultation is entirely charades and sign language, please do say hi! ;)

For you users of UKNOVA the site has removed all torrents following a cease and desist notice.

Someone's not having a good day when the Mater has two choppers on the pads and another holding above!

Same story up North in Caloundra ED - waiting room full and dept on bypass last week. The viral illnesses keep coming through the door! One doc had the aim of seeing someone who was sicker than he was. On the + side: we now have a new department built that will be opening this week. Will give more space to see the waiting room patients which is a real problem currently.

Sometimes I wonder how often I'll need to explain why we don't translate our products into Manadarin ...
(we translate into Simplified Chinese)

Simple. No one speaks or reads such a language. At least to my knowledge anyway. :D

(we translate into Simplified Chinese)

How do you go about that? Do you just shove it into a robot just like when our Chinese brethren reciprocate the favour on the manuals of electronic goods they sell to us?

Arrghh, passion finger typing on my phone. :(

Of COURSE I meant Mandarin, Anat0l. Durrr. ;)

No, I don't use or condone bots, only qualified, in-country based native speakers (to ensure current fluency & up-to-dateness). I am interested in machine translation, but we don't have corpora big enough for most languages to leverage from. And when you attempt to use the public stuff ... well, you definitely want in-country reviews!! If it's important enough.
Not to mention that running some text through a website translation tool, or even its API, may mean you are giving that website your content to add to their corpora.

Most people cannot tell the difference between a virus or bacteria.

Whilst we don't have a for sale thread, I thought i'd try to flog a new MacBook Pro I have. Insurance replaced it, but as i'd rather use a MacBook Air (and the insurance company would not replace my broken one with an Air) I have to sell this one to buy a new one. Anyone interested? Base model MacBook air 15" (see Official Apple Store Australia - Buy the new iPad and MacBook Pro with Retina display, iPhone, iPod, and More - Apple Store (Australia) for the base model, the $1999 one). Free shipping Australia Wide for AFF members. Name a price. Happy to negotiate. Not after full retail by any stretch of the imagination. It was replaced a week ago and I haven't opened the box, so it's effectively a full 12 month warranty.
