The view from my "office"

It’s always interesting to note the different building practices. They build the concrete frames then fill in with bricks. Not done here in AU
Yes interesting building style in Thailand.

They dig the foundation and then lay concrete slab. We chose 60-80 cms above ground mainly for heavy rain but also for snakes. There aren't many snakes around but what there my brother in law catches and eats.

The walls are then thin bricks to the ceiling and they will cement render inside and out and then paint.

As I said I know not as good as what people are building here but hopefully the house will give me some enjoyment relaxation away from the rat race here.

Seen in Portland USA. Iceberg Lettuces $1.49 USD in the shops. Whilst walking to the shops, where grass nature strips are gone - replaced by gardens - was a garden bed growing 8 organic lettuces - completely unguarded. Organic Marion berries about $5 punnet. Tis high summer and the day will be hot.

The son of a friend is doing the same - he intends to split his time between here and Thailand. Has bought (or maybe in partners name) a couple of small farms and is building a house on one. Currently there’s a shack.

Farang cannot own land in Thailand unless you set up some sort of company but even then it has to be 51% Thai owned. Can own apartments though.

You saw my other thread regarding travel with a young one still at school. I don't like spending too much time in Thailand in the one go but 4-6 weeks twice a year would be ideal but that will have to wait as little one has at least 11 years of school, possibly longer.

She picks things up quick. She's already learnt to write in Thai in 2 months. So proud of her. Apparently she is one of the most popular children at school. All kids want to come play with her even the older kids. When my wife takes her to school with motorcycle kids run to greet her. She speaks Thai ok and now can answer back quickly giving grandma a headache.

Yes, you said little one is attending school there - great idea and she will gain so much. Had to laugh at grandma comment!
