Tigerair Australia Delays/Cancellations

Continuing today...
TT539 BNE-MEL 20 50 service is cancelled. My boss tends to catch that flight which often gets cancelled. So adding this one to the unreliability stats.

While we don't want to exaggerate, having a ticket on a late night TT or JQ flight can sometimes be risky, particularly on the SYD - MEL - SYD route with SYD curfew constraints. Bad that BNE - MEL is also unreliable. Not everyone has the time, and the flight you highlighted may be cheaper, but it may be prudent to place oneself on an earlier flight to try to minimise the chances of a cancellation meaning a forced overnight in the city of origin.

Monday 10th starts with TT212 MEL-SYD 7 50 service cancelled. Adding to the list of cancellations are:
TT357 BNE-SYD 7 10
TT229 SYD-MEL 10 05
TT362 SYD-BNE 10 15
TTT522 MEL-BNE 11 20
TT311 BNE-ADL 13 50

TT655 DRW-BNE 1 25 service (VH-VNG) took off until 4 29, arrived at 8 40, 175 late.
TT221 SYD-MEL 8 45 service (VH-VOR), departed until 9 56, arrived at 11 12, 52 tardy.
TT677 CNS-SYD 10 00 service (VH-CND) left until 12 48. Arrival is suggested at 16 31, 151 tardy.

TT527 (Tuesday 11 December 2018, the 1410 hours BNE down to MEL that was airborne at 1533 hours) is arriving at 1857, 82 late with B738 VH-VOY.

On Wednesday 12 December, TT214 (0800 hours MEL - SYD, B738 VH-VOY) was still in the queue in MEL at 0925, the time it was due to arrive in SYD, with takeoff looking like slightly after 0930 hours. Arrival won't be until at least 1035, 70 minutes late.

Its next flight was TT229, the 1005 hours SYD - MEL for which takeoff occurred at 1149 hours. Arrival is likely at about 1300, 90 late. Note how the loss of time is increasing.

With storms in MEL as at 2015 hours on Wednesday 11 December 2018 and much more rain forecast, TT505 (B738 VH-VOR, the 1815 hours) took off at 2037 for the flight down to HBA. Arrival is suggested as 2144 hours, 134 minutes late.

The MEL across to ADL TT471 is worse with this 1720 hours flight becoming airborne at 2014 and arrival estimated at 2046, 151 minutes late. Aircraft is B738 VH-VOY.

TT642 was apparently cancelled on Tuesday 11 November (1720 hours ADL across to SYD). Travellers apparently waited until 2300 hours at the airport. (That's when curfew commences).

It was then rescheduled to depart on Wednesday but has not done so, with TT blaming an 'unrelated (to the first delay) engineering issue.' There is a lengthy story in 'Adelaide Advertiser' (print and online) re this, quoting a frustrated passenger.

A320 VH-VNB appears to be the defective aircraft.

Presumably other flights have been or are to be cancelled due to this inoperable plane.

The media story does not mention whether parent VA offered to convey anyone. There'd need to be spare seats. TT642 is the sole TT eastbound offering on this route.

Did I hear correctly that pax were offered a $5 voucher for the delay?

It is a LCC with limited frequency between city pairs - in this case once a day.
Airlines just find it easier to string things along until curfew and into the next day - limits any refunds to passengers.
Why do passengers expect to pay LCC rates but expect F service during situations like this?

TT642 ADL-SYD (VH-VND), the 17 20 service, seems to be diverting to MEL, has been airborn for about 2.5 hours. Arrival to MEL is predicted at 21 37.

Also TT381 BNE-SYD diverted back to Brisbane

Friday 14th of Dec sees:
A320 VH-VNK TT671 CFS-SYD, arrived until 11 44, 64 min tardy. Also affected TT672 SYD-CFS which arrived to gate at 13 35, 75 min behind. This later impacted TT703 CFS-MEL which arrived at 15 58, 68 min late.
B738 VH-VOY TT229 SYD-MEL the 10 05 hours service arrived at 13 13, 93 min behind schedule. This had an effect on TT524 MEL-BNE, the 12 20 hours service, which lnaded until 15 20, 105 tardy.
A320 VH-VNC TT610 SYD-OOL, 11 05 hours service left until 13 33, arrived at 13 43, 138 min tardy. This further affected TT611 OOL-SYD which arrived until 17 08, 163 late.
B738 VH-VOR TT243 SYD-MEL, the 13 05 service arrived at 15 56, 76 min tardy. This later formed as the return bound TT252 MEL-SYD, which has a predicted arrival of 18 47, 112 behind schedule.
B738 VH-VUD TT667 CBR-MEL is badly delayed, with an expected arrival of 19 18, 213 min tardy.
A320 VH-VNH TT259 SYD-MEL, the 16 00 hours service which has a revised arrival of 19 04, 89 min late.

Cancelled
TT211 SYD-MEL 6 30
TT676 SYD-CNS 7 20
TT251 SYD-MEL 14 40
TT256 MEL-SYD 16 45

Nowhere near as bad as on Friday 14, but on Sunday 16 December, TT609 (1035 hours midmorning OOL down to SYD, A320 VH-VNH) took off at 1233. Anticipated arrival is 1445, 100 minutes behind schedule. The rot started yesterday with TT376, the 1615 hours SYD - BNE that was two hour late. Because the aircraft went to and from PER overnight, it has not been able to recover any of that time.

TT609 is its sixth successive badly late flight.

UPDATE: It then operated TT368, the 1355 hoursw SYD - BNE that was in the sky at 1541. Arrival should be 1555 hours, 90 late.

The 1510 hours SYD - ADL on 16 December, TT641, was airborne at 1641 hours with A320 VH-VND. Arrival should be at 1810 hours, 80 minutes behind the schedule.

TT563 (1435 hours OOL - MEL) was in the sky at 1511. B738 VH-VOY should arrive at 1825, half an hour behind.

Monday 17 December finds the early morning TT206 from MEL up to SYD, the 0645 hours, not having taken off until 0735. Arrival of B738 VH-VUD is predicted for 0848, 33 minutes down.

TT207 has had a really bad start with this 0600 hours SYD down to MEL scheduled flight not taking off (A320 VH-VNH) until 0804 hours. Likely arrival in the southern capital is 0916 hours, 101 late.

This is the 11th consecutive flight where VH-VNH has been more than an hour late, with 10 of those 11 more than two hours late. It had arrived in SYD last night ex OOL so the excuse today cannot be that it operated a PER return overnight.

Major media outlets are reporting that on Monday 17 December 2018, Tt271 (A320 VH-VNF, the 1840 hours SYD - MEL that took off about 25 minutes late at 1923 hours subsequently diverted back to SYD, arriving at around 2040 hours. A written threat (note) had apparently been found on board.

AFP and NSW Police attended while passengers were detained on board for at least two hours with mobile phones having to be switched off. No charges have been laid (yet).

VH-VNF did not operate any further flights last night. TT282, the last of the night at 2105 hours from MEL to SYD was cancelled as (unrelated) was TT206, the 0645 hours MEL to SYD and first of the morning on Tuesday 18 December.

Next time I'm on the overnight NSWTrainLink XPT between Melbourne and Sydney I'll remember the travails those who book last flights of the night (or close to it) with JQ or TT can sometimes go through.

And often, no accommodation provided overnight by these LCC airlines even if hotels have spare rooms. If there were 180 on this TT flight, 179 passengers would have every right to feel 'disgruntled' as media reports indicate some were.

Just crazy to leave a note in a toilet, although if somewhat hidden, it may have been from a previous flight. What if someone was observant and remembered which passengers had visited the loo in question?
