Tigerair Australia Delays/Cancellations

TT627, also a 30 October flight (1930 hours OOL down to SYD) did not take off until 2037, so arrival of A320 VH-VNH should be at 2253, 53 minutes late. The critical time to beat teh 2300 hours curfew is what time the plane lands (in this case, about 2248) rather than what time it is 'blocks on' at the passenger terminal.

Thursday 4 November 2016 has TT376 (1630 hours from SYD up to BNE) having taken off at a delayed 1738 with arrival suggested as 45 minutes behind at 1745 AEST.

Friday 4 November 2016 (note that my post above re 'Thursday' should read '3 November) has TT278, the 2045 hours MEL - SYD having become airborne at 2140; arrival should be 36 late at 2246. Plane is A320 VH-VNO.

TT353, the Saturday 5 November 0625 hours early morning from BNE down to SYD has had a bit of a sleep in with take off not until 0736. Arrival of A320 VH-VNB is suggested as 65 minutes behind schedule at 1005.

SYD is only using the east west runway as at 0945 on Saturday 5 November. This is causing delays, particularly for departures.

Winds have been at 57kmh gusting to 65kmh.

TT218, the 0905 hours MEL - SYD (A320 VH-XUG) took off at 0854 and is arriving at roughly 1110, 35 minutes behind time.

TT635 (0930 hours from SYD across to ADL, A320 VH-VNB) had not taken off by 1108, so it will be more than an hour late.

Although we are now in the really quiet period of Saturday - when it might be recalled from 1700 hours if I recall one Saturday in 2011 AJ shut down QF - delays due to the vast majority of aircraft being restricted to using runway 25 (east west) in SYD due to the winds are continuing, although it is mostly because on previous outbound flights, planes left badly late.

TT372, the 1440 hours from SYD to BNE (A320 VH-VNB) still is not queued for departure as at 1710 so it will be more than two hours late, and possibly over two and a half hours late, into the Sunshine State's capital.

The 1610 hours SYD - OOL, TT620 (A320 VH-VNO) similarly does not appear to have yet departed from its gate in SYD. TT682 (1515 hours SYD - CNS, VH-XUG) is similarly afflicted.

The CNS-bound flight normally forms TT681, the 1750 hours from CNS back to SYD on a Saturday evening that is due into the Harbour City at 2145. It would seem impossible that it lands prior to the 2300 hours curfew if it has not yet been cancelled, so one might suspect that any passengers waiting or about to head to the airport in CNS might be in for an 'extended stay - go claim from your travel insurer' but (a) most won't have travel insurance for doemstic travel (b) the vast majority of policies have at least an A$100 excess even if one did.

If this is underselling TT's 'generosity' to booked passengers, please let us all know.

TT259, the 1615 hours SYD - MEL (A320 VH-VNF) seems to be moving off from the terminal at 1717 or so but given it is due even with the slow schedule in the southern capital's airport terminal gate at 1750, it will be at a minimum 45 minutes late.

The 1340 hours BNE - SYD (A320 VH-XUH), Tt371, took off at 1512 hours and should arrive in SYD at around 1735, 80 minutes tardy.

Not a great Saturday night for TT. On top of the disruption to passengers, there are hidden costs such as extra overtime for cabin crew, extra fuel consumed from longer waits for ATC clearance and even the possibility that some cabin crew may be out of hours if delays morph into three hours late and they've already had a fairly long day.

UPDATE: The CNS-bound TT682 took off from SYD at 1730: arrival is expected 145 minutes late at 1945 hours (2045 AEDT).

TT268 (1820 hours MEL - SYD) took off at 1941 hours (A320 VH-VNF) so it should arrive at around 2041, 56 minutes behind schedule.

FURTHER UPDATE: TT681 from CNS to SYD was formed by another aircraft (ex MEL) so is on time.

Augmenting Melburnian1's already comprehensive reporting this busy "Sabbath" Saturday

TT681 CNS-SYD was operated by the aircraft that operated MEL-CNS TT588 which arrived into CNS at 1700 allowing a departure for SYD as TT681 at 1805hrs
TT591 CNS-MEL was then operated by the aircraft that normally operates TT682 from SYD which arrived late at 1900hrs. Its departure at 2000hrs would been outside the curfew and the ministers delegate's grace if it operated CNS-SYD. Instead MEL does not have such restrictions so no curfew anxiety there.

1hr turns, especially from a lcc, isn't great

docjames, very true but in this case TT had an extremely limited number of flights out of Cairns on a Saturday night: two I think, so it did the best it could by swapping as I implied above and Quickstatus kindly explained in detail.

If you are referring to turnaround times in SYD today, these would have been affected by almost all flights having to use runway 25 to depart. Hence ATC would be slow with giving pilots clearance to push back, as during the busier times such as 1000 to 1200 there were aircraft continually queued waiting for departure: space must be finite on taxiways and it's presumably more costly for aircraft to 'hold' behind others than it is for them to remain at the gate until a clearance to depart with a hopefully not super excessive taxiway waiting period is given.

interesting observation docjames!

Lets look at VH-VNP which is operating its last sector for this Sabbath:

Its day started as the Redeye
PER-MEL 2:03hr turnaround at MEL
MEL-CFS 0:43 hr turnaround at CFS
CFS-MEL 2:01 hr turnaroun at MEL
MEL-CNS 1:04 hrs turnaround at CNS
CNS-MEL arriving just after midnight at 0004 hrs.

Im not sure if this is a slow turnaround or just the way slots have been allocated??. An A380 can be turned around in less than 2 hours.

My alternative explanation is that being a Saturday, there is lower demand from passengers, so the fleet is less well used. Hence longer turnaround times. No point in flying jets up and down empty or with very poor yields per available seat. LCCs may seek increased utilisation but if the demand isn't there because not nearly as many want to fly domestically at a fare that is 'realistic' for the airline on a Saturday, there's not a lot they can profitably do about it.

Same reason that a rail operator or a bus company often has far less rollingstock or fewer buses on the tracks or roads respectively at 1200 on a weekday compared to 0800 or 1600 hours, because there are fewer trains and buses timetabled, demand is lower and for the bus companies it isn't school drop off or pick up time.

Monday 7 November sees TT703 with A320 VH-XUH. This is the 1125 hours from CFS down to MEL that took off at 1227; arrival should be at around 1411 hours, 46 minutes tardy.

TT242 was this aircraft's next flight. It took off from MEL at 1509 against its departure (pushback) time of 1355; arrival in SYD should be 56 minutes late at 1616 hours.

On Tuesday 8 November, Tt262, the 1745 hours from MEL to SYD (A320 VH-XUH) took off at 1823 hours. Arrival should be at 1843, 33 minutes late.

Not too bad really, for Scoot Australia.

cllifford, yes, a wry observation given the 'amalgamation' of the two forthcoming in Asia if I recall.

I wasn't aware that this had been extended to Australia given the different local ownership for Tigerair here. However yours may be a prescient observation.

On Wednesday 9 November, TT256, the 1645 hours MEL - SYD took off at 1840 with A320 VH-VNP set to arrive at about 1950 hours, 100 minutes behind the eight ball.

A320 VH-VNP on the 1105 hours Thursday 10 November TT233 from SYD down to MEL was airborne at 1156. Arrival should be at 1327, 47 minutes behind schedule.

Northbound TT524, the 1215 hours lunchtime MEL - BNE (A320 VH-VND) has only just taken off at 1302 so gate time in arriving should be at around 1406, 36 late.

On 11 November 2016, TT353, the 0625 hours from BNE down to SYD had a late start to its morning with A320 VH-VNG becoming airborne at 0725. It is expected to be 52 minutes late into SYD at 0952 as it was in a 'hold' above the Hunter Valley's Polkobin.

TT620 on the afternoon of Friday 11 November has been delayed from its timetabled 1610 hours to a predicted 1645 hours pushback.

Later, TT623, the 1700 hours from OOL to SYd (A320 VH-XUH) took off at a late 1751, so arrival is delayed until a forecast 45 minutes late at 2015 hours.

TT572, the 1815 hours MEL - OOL (A320 VH-VNB) was airborne at 1908. It should arrive at 1954 tonight Queensland time, 34 minutes tardy.

On Sunday 13 November, SYD seemed to be down to a single runway as at 1815 hours.

TT373 (A320 VH-VNK), the 1430 hours BNE - SYD was in the air quite late at 1604, so arrival was at 1835, 90 minutes late.

The 1645 hours MEL - SYD, TT256, took off at 1749. Arrival of A320 VH-XUH should be at around 1941 hours, 91 minutes behind time. As with many aircraft en route to SYD, it is enduring multiple laps of the standard racecourse-like patterned 'hold' above Yass and to the south of Crookwell, NSW.

UPDATE: AFF member moa999 has kindly reported a severe storm in BNE with the BOM stating winds of up to 258kmh hit Brisbane Airport from 1731 to 1735 AEST this afternoon (1831 to 1835 AEDT further south.) moa999 suggests some aircraft may be damaged, but he did not state of which airline(s).
