Tigerair Australia Delays/Cancellations

Quickstatus just kindly advised me that as at 1615 on Monday 5 December 2016, SYD airport operations have been grounded due to impending thunderstorm activity.

This will naturally cause numerous delays and presumably cancellations for the rest of the evening.
 
Thursday 8 December sees TT213 (A320 VH-VNB, the 0700 hours from SYD down to MEL) not having taken off until 0801. A 45 minute forecast arrival at 0920 is the inevitable result. This will delay TT214, the 0905 hours from MEL back to SYD until about 1000 in its departure.

TT514, another 0700 hours timetabled pushback but in this case a MEL - BNE offering did not become airborne until 0757 hours. A320 VH-VNR should pull in at 0854 instead of 0815.

The 0640 hours from BNE down to MEL, TT511, took off at 0743 hours so it should arrive at around 1055, 50 minutes tardy.

In further on Thursday 8 December, TT233, the 1105 from SYD down to MEL (A320 VH-VNB) took off at 1223. Arrival is likely to be 51 minutes tardy at 1341. This aircraft has been similarly late for several hours as the previous post together with this contribution show.

TT511, the 1035 MEL - BNE (A320 VH-VND) did not take off until 1150, so arrival is suggested as 55 minutes late at 1245.

Like JQ, on the busier days with tight allowable turnarounds, if a TT roster (rotations) starts off 50 minutes late, it is likely to end the day at least 25 minutes late even if it picks up five minutes here and there in an individual flight sector or on turnaround.

UPDATE: VH-VNB subsequently ran the 1310 hours MEL - SYD (TT238) that was airborne at 1435; arrival is predicted for 1523 hours, 48 minutes late. Any small gains in the total elapsed time between pushback and gate arrival have been swallowed up in longer than timetabled turnarounds.

Also on Thursday 8 December, VH-VNK on the 1725 hours from SYD down to MEL (Tt263) was not airborne until a very late 1917; arrival should be at 2030, 90 minutes late.
 
TT272, the 1940 hours Thursday 8 December MEL to SYD (A320 VH-VNK) took off at a very late 2124, got as far as Batlow NSW then appears to be returning to MEL.

It had been showing an estimated FR24 touchdown time of 2244 (and hence an at gate arrival at around 2249) with the '2244' time being the critical one for curfew-meeting purposes.

Did 'the delegate' of Darren Chester tell it that it no longer had permission to land after 2300 because it had lost time? Or was it a medical emergency (albeit in that case it might land in CBR?) Or some other reason?

Looks like passengers (and crew) are spending the night in Melbourne.

TT595 (1910 hours from CNS down to MEL) took off at 2000 hours; arrival of A320 VH-VNH is predicted as 0007, 32 minutes tardy.

Melburnian1, I think you are correct - The timing suggests TT272 did not get a curfew dispensation.
The last RPT flight arrival occurred at 2252 (VA992)
A short lived localised storm hit NW Sydney earlier this evening but only for 30 minutes or so and I don't believe it affected SYD runway ops.
There were 2 other flights from MEL cancelled (JQ518 and JQ524) but I think these 2 did not depart MEL.
 
The Wednesday 14 December arriving TT2 from DPS into MEL is badly late with its 0835 hours arrival delayed until a suggested 2205 tonight. Advice from any travellers as to whether they were placed in hotels or otherwise looked after would be good.

TT262 (A320 VH-VNK, the 1530 hours MEL to SYD) was airborne at 1616; arrival is forecast for 1726 later this afternoon, 31 minutes behind schedule.

Friday 16 December 2016 sees the evening TT642, 1750 hours from ADL across to SYD not having become airborne until 1919; arrival of A320 VH-VNO should be 75 minutes behind schedule at 2125 tonight.
 
In further on 17 December, TT371, the early to mid afternoon 1340 hours from BNE down to SYD did not take off until 1633 hours. A320 VH-VNP should arrive at 1852 instead of 1615, 157 minutes behind schedule.
 
In line with some of the readers' comments below the article (none of which were made by me), this 'story' appears to be an absolute beat-up.

It doesn't look like anyone's flight has been 'cancelled' - passengers have simply been moved to a new time slot mostly within a couple of hours of the original schedule.

The real entity to blame looks like the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

Why didn't this 'journalist' - I use the term advisedly - get stuck into the slow, lethargic bureaucrats at CASA who are hopeless?

Looks like Tiger did a good job of moving passengers onto other services, but flights were definitely cancelled. On some days it looks like half the usual services are running.

Cancelling 50% of your flights is a huge deal, especially because Christmas is the airlines busiest and most profitable period.
 
If the airline was able to move passengers onto other flights, that paints a poor picture of where bookings were at. During Christmas and January I'd expect flights, like other modes of transport, to be pretty full on major routes, with many booking weeks in advance given the demand for travel.\

On Monday 19 December 2016, TT530, the 1550 hours MEL up to BNE that took off at 1641 should arrive at 1750, 45 minutes tardy. Aircraft is A320 VH-XUH.

TT242, the Friday 23 December early afternoon scheduled 1335 hours MEL to SYD took off at 1425. A320 VH-VNP is predicted to arrive at 1546, 46 minutes tardy.
 
Near the end of Tuesday 27 December 2016, TT761 (2150 hours from SYD across to PER) was airborne at 2301. A320 VH-VNB should pull in to its allocated bay a few thousand kilometres away from the east coast at 0051 on Wednesday 28 December, 61 minutes late.

Also on 28 December, TT677, the 1001 hours CNS - SYD is arriving at around 1431 hours, 36 minutes late with A320 VH-VNG.
 
TT502, the Thursday 29 December 1010 from HBA up to ME:L (A320 VH-VNR) did not take off until 1126. It should arrive at 1230, an hour behind schedule. As a result Tt560 (1200 'high noon' MEL - OOL should commence pushback at 1300 hours early this afternoon.

TT229, the 1015 hours from SYd down to MEL has been cancelled.

The 0900 hours from BNE to MEL, TT517 is also quite tardy, having not become airborne until 1026. A320 VH-VNQ should be 73 minutes late into MEL at 1338.

TT238, the 1310 hours from MEL to SYD is displaying an amended departure time of about 1350 but it may be delayed a bit more.
 
Continuing with Thursday 29 December, TT553, the 0935 hours mid morning from OOL to MEL did not take off until 1210 hours. A320 VH-VNK should arrive at 1508, 133 minutes behind schedule.
