Now in the meantime we were in Chicago when the booking window for QF 10 opened up. As it got to 353 days out from our initial preferred date, no seats were released. We panicked. The decision several hours later was to book the only day available (which was a Monday well before when we wanted to come home). I was resigned to having to beg to have time off which I’m not supposed to take off. A few days later I happened to take another look at the flights and the whole week was wide open. It’s like they released the whole week at once. So we raced for the laptop to change flights. The return leg was now sorted.

A couple days after arriving back home from the states, I had another lightbulb moment. blackcat20 had just earnt a large number of Velocity points, which could be transferred to SQ and F (& R) could be booked. The conversation went a little like this:
TV: So how would you feel about using ALL of those Velocity points you just got?
BC: No! They’re for VA (new) J
TV: What if I said we could fly in F and Suites to Tokyo?
BC: Oh.

So we decided to go the whole hog and make it an F trip start to finish (except for when there’s no F).

00:05 TBP - that extra 5 mins will give Tommy time to finish that last mouthful of Moet - timing is critical for F pax!

Your arrival into SIN usually earlier than listed also - previously TPR opened at 06:00 so you regularly had to wait 20 odd mins - but now with 05:30 opening you should walk straight in and have a pre-shower PH Rare - then shower - then multiple post-shower PH Rares - again F Lounge activity structure most important.
