Travel Insurance which covers COVID-19?

As posted in other thread I just checked Southern Cross and annual multi trip is <$300.

I am more interested in the rental vehicle excess but Covid cover is also good. So they will cover cost of hospitalisation due to Covid but not cost of return flight?
That's right. But at the moment it would be very unlikely that is needed. We would only test if symptoms.

This is by no means any financial nor policy advise, but yes, that is what the COVID-19 PDS states in paragraph D.1.1.

Everything we ever do is for worse case scenario.

I've checked a few other quotes and each one is close to $1000 or more for annual multi trip. Surprising Southern Cross is that cheap.

I wonder if this couple's travel insurance will cover the stuff up

The airline will be paying for the flight back I would think. Though I'd also like to know who they flew with as clearly they were never asked for vaccine documents. Nor, I presume, done the DPD. I'm guessing not QR as they were diligent in checking my documents on departing Dublin.

Ultimately any lost money will be the responsibility of the people. They did not fulfil their requirements to enter Australia so why would insurance cover a cent?

I've got 4 attachments and I cannot find mention of Covid cover in D.1.1!

I've also sent them email asking for summary but no reply.

John, are you looking at the 'Supplementary Product Disclosure Statement (SPDS) Effective from 17 November 2021'? It has reference to D1.1 on page 3.

I find it ridiculous that with such big changes they have not updated the original document. Personally I find it really confusing to have to try to apply parts of this new document to the original. Surely it's time for them to rewrite the whole policy! :)

Yes it's there but no mention of actual $$ coverage.

Stunned that I sent them email 2 days ago and still no response. I know Thailand Pass approval only takes a few days but if any issues I'm screwed.

Well, the limit is there if you combined the SPDS with the PDS.

The SPDS says
This section is extended to cover your actual and reasonable medical expenses if you need medical treatment because you are diagnosed with COVID-19 during the period of insurance. Where claiming for costs or losses arising under this section, the benefit limits and sublimits of the policy apply.
and per the PDS the Medical and evacuation cover is $Unlimited (except for the sub-limits)

But yes, I agree this would be a lot easier if they just updated the main PDS?

Very happy with Covermore

I got stuck in the UK in march with a Covid positive result on my pre departure test

Got the letter last week from them saying that my claim for the extra 10 days accommodation all covered and accepted and the money has hit my bank account.

Got to say the first time I have ever claimed on travel insurance and didn't think it would be this easy!

Just got mine from cover more..on the explanation it says I would have an additional $500 on top of my chosen excess for a covid condition situation

Beware though there's a 21-day period from date of policy purchase where you can't claim the pre-departure expenses.
I can't find this in the PDS for Insure & Go; however I did see this in the Cover More PDF (where expenses needed to have been made in the prior 48h or after policy purchase).

Are you sure about Insure & Go?

Appears the policy has changed since I purchased the policy which potentially coincides with the changes in SGs entry regulations.

By now I really shouldn't be surprised how quickly things can change in a matter of weeks. Which reinforces another tip I saw from a (bad) review of another insurer: print/save all PDS at the time of policy purchase.

Any doctors out there ?
Avant (med indemnity insurer) has now changed their travel product to cover Covid cancellations etc etc from 1 July
Avant has always been good $500 for unlimited travel plus partner
Of course new policy over $900 for the year

I dumped Avant with the increase and no covid cover. If they cover cruises, I might pick them back up again.
