"TrouserGate" - Australian Cricketers Caught Ball Tampering

I’m pretty sure that their contracts have the clause ‘brings the game of cricket or CA into disrepute’ = whatever CA thinks appropriate, can be brought into play. It’s in our work contracts but obviously not in reference to cricket.

Spouse visa application still in progress. Don't know if they will even grant tourist visa. Had bridging visa and wife was out of country when that expired and couldn't re-apply.

We need some luck and prayers.
Good luck that it pans out. I’m not a praying type but thinking of you, if that helps. :)

Reports today of a possible 1 year ban each for ex C. and ex VC. - six months supposedly too short to be "effective" as little cricket in period.

I'll never look at weet-bix the same way ...

This is the ripple effect they have to stop. Somehow. The 1 year ban takes them right to the next Ashes series. The thing which gripes me most is the stupidity of thinking they could get away with such an obvious thing. On the other hand, maybe they have been getting away with it for so long they just got clumsy arrogant at it.

Should all this cricket talk not be moved into its own thread? It seems a little too on topic for here...

Yeah. It’s getting that way. Can’t see JT getting on to it just yet.

I think C A's primary task is to minimise the damage, both financial and reputational, and the personal feelings of Smith, Warner (and probably Lehman) would be very secondary.

It isn't about the personal feelings of the players though. It is about what is a fair and equitable punishment and some people seem to think that losing the C & VC isn't a big deal, well it is and is a much more severe punishment then has been handed out in past incidents.

They also have to abide by employment law, so CA can't just do what they want here, all factors need to be taken into account including any past precedent on similar situations.

They will not serve a 1 year ban, they'll be lucky to even serve 6 months. Once all the dust settles and they both go their players union I very highly doubt that length of ban will ever be served. Loss of C & VC certainly, but I just can't see them serving a lengthy of ban (and they shouldn't have to).

Probably should.

I think its way past, given its been going on for several days and numerous pages. No other topic gets to hang around that long.

Remember that the Union comprises of all former First Class Players. They may have an opinion on what needs to happen ;)

Yep, and a whole lot of former players have expressed their disgust and that Warner and Smith should lose their leadership roles, but they've also said they deserve redemption and any big suspension would be over the top.

So as before, I very highly doubt they'll be serving a lengthy suspension after this is mulled over with the ACA.

Outrage, there needs to be more of it. Sackings need to happen not suspensions. This is cricket not football where morals and ethics left long ago.

Can only imagine the discipline if Justin Langer is appointed as Coach. Be great to have a non NSW centric person. Older son got Justin out in a game of backyard cricket. His best wicket. In a rather mediocre career. Of schoolboy cricket. :D

Imagine if this happened in a regular work place. You'd be sacked on the spot. Same needs to happen. Anyone remotely involved, out of the team for good.

Well that is an interesting development (possibility of Lehmann resigning) and Smith/Warner getting 12 and 6 months would be justified.

Lehmann, as coach, is accountable for the culture within the team and has presided over a side happy to agree to pre-meditated cheating,” the report read.

Having them miss the Indian Tests in November/December will be hard on the Aussies, but will give others a change at redemption (Renshaw et al). All-in-all, I think it's what the team needs. They've become too coughy in their little bubble, which just popped.

But with the fourth Test some 72 hours away from getting underway, Australia will likely struggle to come up with a competitive playing XI from their 15-man squad with Peter Handscomb the only backup batsmen within the group.

Well Handscomb in and they fly over 2 more - or as Jimmy Maher has espoused, forfeit the 4th Test. Jordan Silk has just scored 76 and 74 in the Shield Final. Renshaw and Burns both blooded in Aussie colours.

Australia v South Africa fourth Test forfeit: Ball tampering scandal

The losses are going to start mounting. The $900M five year television rights deal is probably off the table and they'll be lucky to get $750M. Great boon for the telecast partners, saving some serious coin.

Iain Roy (Head of Integrity), Pat Howard (High Performance Manager) and James Sutherland will be having some interesting meetings with each player today and tomorrow. Oh, to be a fly on the wall (or a bug in the potplant).

They need to go. These guys are paid big bucks and are supposed leaders.

There are plenty who would love to be given a chance.

If we have a few losses so be it. Better to have a loss and for Aussies to hold their heads high.
