Turkish Airlines Status Match

I still can't believe they knocked me back with Skyteam Elite Plus and with lots of Europe travel having shown on my account in the last 12 months.
Obviously they just don't like me!

"Bother!"
It seems they are sticking to OW and *A status matches only.

(I would be happy to guest you into IST should our paths ever cross there).

One good thing about having *A Gold is:

a) not having to pay for checked baggage on our UA flight LAS/LAX
b) being able to use the UA Lounge in LAS as no Admirals Club
c) Not having to pay the USD27.00 guest fee if using Priority Pass at this lounge

B applies even if not flying UA?

We chose to fly UA instead of AA LAS/LAX so we can use UA Lounge which we can use as *A Gold. Also gives us a chance to credit some activity to US DM program.

Even if flying AA as there's no AC at LAS we could have used the PP Lounge (which is UA Lounge) but would've had to pay the visitor fee of USD27.00 for the non PP holder.

I still have not requested a status match as I do not see any *Alliance travel in economy in the foreseeable future.

Thinking out loud when would be the best time to request a status match to get the furthest expiry date possible or is it all standard 2 years?

I'm not sure if its published how long the status match will continue to be offered. I was matched for the standard two years in August. At the time I requested it I hadn't planned any * travel but have since credited this weeks OZ SYD-ICN ( the QF codeshare was almost double the cost). Was rather pleased that my *G was recognised on the system I didn't have to follow up on it.

That is OK. So it appears the status match is for 2 years but as usual the status match promotion could be terminated at any time. I understand.

And you should know by now that even though I am on AFF, I am a boring and predictable frequent flyer. I may end up purchasing a cheap SQ flight but it would need to be real cheap. Otherwise the current fad appears to be QF economy travel SIN-SYD or using Amex miles for VS SYD-HKG flights.

I think it is two years regardless of join up date, as Princess Fiona has said.

I would suggest getting it now -

a) before it ends as we don't know the finish date.
b) you have it if you choose to fly *A at short notice

YMMV

c) Just in case I need my ego stroked! :p

I guess in a way you are right but if I can somehow hold off until I know a little more of travel plans post 2013 then it would better. At this stage it is just Thailand 5 times next year with no time to do anything else.

I considered option c) but wasn't sure how to phrase it! LOL

About to hit WP with QF. Anyone know who to email for this and any suggested wording to improve my chances for this status match?

Thanks

I don't think it would work. This is response I had got:

"Please be informed that only Star Alliance Gold, Skyteam Elite Plus and Oneworld Emerald members have an opportunity for Status Match.

Therefore we are sorry that we are unable to meet your demand positively."

The Club at LAS is a DC lounge, and although basic, I find the service to be amazing. The lovely bar tender gave me table service drinks (spirits) until I wandered up to the gate.

I normally travel alone, so the guest thing isn't an issue for me.

My status match came through last week, QFCL > M&S Elite

One interesting thing I saw in their Ts & Cs which I wasn't aware of:

50% discount on Business Class paid ticket for the companion
When an Elite or Elite Plus card holder buys Business Class paid ticket on both domestic and international flights, 50% discount will be applied for one companion provided that they are traveling together on outbound and return segments.

Nice pick up !!

The website is a little clunky and non-user friendly. Just noticed that a flight taken on OZ last month has failed to credit. No option to request online or via fax or email. Will need to post a copy of the e-ticket and boarding pass to Turkey

I applied online in September for Miles and Smiles and in person in a Turkish airport but still I haven't received any word. of my membership.
Any suggestions?

That does seem a bit long. Have you also applied for a status match, or are you still waiting for the initial membership?

Email customer service and give them a friendly reminder.

I've a couple questions i haven't been able to find a definitive answer to.

First, has any who got the match (or even anyone who didn't but is in the TK program) found out whether purchased miles go towards the 25k minimum required in the first 12 months? I expect to be as much as 3k below that, especially since I cancelled my Yangon round 2 fare that included NH J.

Second, does anybody know how Silkair is treated in Star FF programs for the purpose of earning? I'm specifically wondering whether my MI coded flight on SQ metal will count towards the TK FF program or if it's out.
