Turkish Airlines Status Match

Second, does anybody know how Silkair is treated in Star FF programs for the purpose of earning? I'm specifically wondering whether my MI coded flight on SQ metal will count towards the TK FF program or if it's out.

As Silkair is a non-member affiliate of Singapore Airlines, I would imagine earn and burn (status or redeemable credit) will not be possible for the TK program.

Generally, flights credited to FFPs under the *A agreements must be both *A marketed and *A operated. Affiliate airlines must be member affiliates to be counted under the *A agreement.

MI flights can be credit to SQ KrisFlyer for both status and redeemable credit, but I would imagine that is simply an agreement between MI and SQ KrisFlyer (a la Jetstar and QFF).

First, has any who got the match (or even anyone who didn't but is in the TK program) found out whether purchased miles go towards the 25k minimum required in the first 12 months? I expect to be as much as 3k below that, especially since I cancelled my Yangon round 2 fare that included NH J.
You are able to purchase bonus or status miles. Bonus miles can be used for flight redemptions and the like, whilst status miles are for maintaining status.

Status miles must be bought in the second year only and don't count towards total miles, which I interperet as not being able to be redeemed.

To answer your question, you can't purchase status miles in your first year to reach 25,000 but must wait until your second year (when you will need 37,500). And you can only purchase a maximum of 10,000 so if you have 22,000 miles at the moment you will need to earn another 5,500 by your second membership year to be able to top them up to maintain status.

terms and conditions

Just to add to the complexity, TK do allow bonus miles to be converted to status miles at a cost from time to time. I have not been able to find a current reference on their website but have seen it in the past. This conversion may be in addition to purchased status miles but I am not sure.

My brother got a TK status match match & he was deliberating whether to credif his upcoming trip in PE on NZ SYD/LAX/SYD to TK or UA.

The plan is to maintain *A Gold but not sure if this will be easier to achieve with TK vs UA.

Isn't crediting to Agean the easiest way to keep *A Gold? (Can't remember the details right now sorry).

Happy to report I used my new *A card from Turkish just before Xmas. The lounges with Thai were great on our family hols. Thanks to AFF for the heads up on the matching offer last year :)

I'm about to do my first flight on SG using the TK Status match *A Gold status.. looking forward to it. BUT

Anyone find the TK website horrendously unreliable?

Yes. I tried to join and then apply for a status match a couple of months back but gave away trying to join because the website was a bit clunky. I couldn't get the drop-down box to work properly for my address and when I attempted to get back in to tidy up it said that I was already a member but I never was able to find out what my user name is.

Ok call me a Klutz, but when entering the TK Elite number onto a SG booking, do I use the TK at the prefix or not? I can't seem to get SG's website to acknowledge my TK number..

I am not sure that Spicejet are part of the Star Alliance. ;)
If you meant SQ then I don't think you need the 'TK', just choose Turkish Airlines from the drop down list of affiliates and enter the number only.

Ended up having to ring SQ reservations but my TK number has been added.

Another question, I'm flying SYD>SIN>SYD with SQ soon, SQ's website says that J fares earn at 125% for Krisflyer, whereas the TK website says J in SQ earns at 150%

Is this correct - that I will earn more miles using my TK FF number than using SQ's?

Of course Krisflyer Silver requires 25,000 miles per year and Krisflyer Gold requires 50,000 miles, as opposed to the equivalent Miles & Smiles levels Classic Plus requiring 25,000miles and Elite requiring 40,000.

So then am I right in saying that TK's Miles and Smiles not only earns faster, but requires less to gain *A Gold benefits?

I have credited some SQ J flights to TK recently and they do earn 150% of miles flown.

Yes on both counts.

Probably the only reason why SQ KrisFlyer is potentially more attractive on the burn side is that there are Australian credit cards which can credit to SQ (none for TK), and through SQ you can book premium seats on all SQ services (viz. on any other *A programme, you usually can't book SQ J or F on the new aircraft).

That would explain why all the bulkhead seats appear to be taken already, even though the rest of the rear upper deck is completely blank!

Well I don't have enough $$ to run through credit cards to contribute FF points of any significance, so I'm happy to be earning flown Miles (& Smiles...apparently)

Anyone have experience TK matching Skyteam Gold?

:)
I do recall that an AFF member or two have tried without success to SM Skyteam. ISTR that there was a mention of it in an early part of this thread, however I have not gone back through it to find it.

A few people on FT had luck, but general consensus was no.
