I was on JQ35 a couple of weeks ago and I was surprised at how many pax were flying just to Melbourne. we might be lucky and it will still run!

Indeed. When I flew on it last, the vast majority of people were heading towards the exit instead of the international transfers area.

You might be going domestic after all if on JQ35, the volcanic ash has got worse now that VAAC have got a clear observation, the dust cloud rules out any approach to DPS from what I can see:

Volcanic Ash Graphics 5

I would be surprised if JQ run the A330 just to MEL.

It's the perfect chance for Qantas PR to pull their finger out and come see us then. Let's face it, if it's a quiet flight, the majority of us on there are going to be from here.

C'mon QF, let's see some goodwill given to us (for a change :P) ;)

I would suggest a call to JQ is in order:

Based on the latest advice from the Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre, Jetstar has cancelled all of today’s scheduled return services from Australia and Singapore to Denpasar (Bali). These are listed:
JQ83 Darwin - Denpasar (departing 1610) / JQ84 Denpasar - Darwin (departing 1815)
JQ35 Melbourne - Denpasar (departing 1845) / JQ36 Denpasar - Melbourne (departing 2300)
JQ37 Sydney - Denpasar (departing 1735)/ JQ38 Denpasar - Sydney (departing 2210)
JQ81 Darwin - Denpasar (departing 1930) / JQ82 Denpasar - Darwin (departing 2250)
JQ116 Perth - Denpasar (departing 1005) / JQ 117 Denpasar - Perth (departing 22:45)
JQ116 Denpasar - Singapore (departing 1445) / JQ117 Singapore - Denpasar (departing 1835)
JQ117 Singapore - Denpasar (departing 1335) / JQ118 Denpasar - Singapore (departing 1650)
Affected Jetstar passengers on services bound to or departing from Bali will be informed of their revised travel itineraries and re-accommodation options once determined, based on the flying conditions and the latest advice from the Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre.

Affected passengers, and also those travelling tomorrow, Saturday 29 January, and Sunday 30 January 2011, are being offered the following options by Jetstar:
Delay of travel: Customers may delay their travel to or from Bali. Travel must be completed by 31 March 2011.
Full refund.
Free moves to an alternative Jetstar destination or re-routing to get passengers to their end destination.

It just dawned on me that JQ35 goes Syd-Mel-Dps. With DPS closed, there may not be a JQ35 Syd-Mel leg:evil:....so I came here to check what others know. As I have a non refundable booking at HI Mel tomorrow night, and a non refundable QF flight Mel-Syd on Sun, I will still make the trip to Mel tomorrow anyway (on whatever I'm rebooked on) but it may not be on JQ35:evil::shock::!:. JQ35 is still scheduled from Syd-Mel when I just checked on the website but I guess this might all change very soon!!

Just got off the phone with J*, JQ35 is still operating from SYD -> MEL at this time :)

Until the next VACC update shows the problem getting bigger, I doubt it will operate.
Should we change to another J* flight now or wait til JQ35 is officially cancelled? Not sure if we can change from JQ35 now if it has not been officially cancelled...

J* website advises that:
A further update will be provided on Saturday 29 January at 12 noon AEDT.
:shock:Update on Jetstar Bali services

Tomorrow's JQ35 is still operating to DPS at this time as well:shock:

Although, I would think that they would fly the SYD->MEL sector, and maybe go back to SYD empty. Depedning on the number of passengers doing SYD->MEL

I guess in the spirit of the wake, changing to a purely domestic service wouldn’t be a big deal, but I was really looking forward to the F lounge and wondering if the ticket should be kept for another visit to the F lounge before the end of March :p

Still hoping of course that the domestic leg operates.

Well there's at least 20 WPs on the flight !

They can just put us on our own AFF Charter to MEL. Actually, that'd be a good use of a positioning flight from them ;)

The WP Express. Shame they can't board through the F lounge (not that we'd get F lounge of course being a DOM service).

I'm just going to rock up and see. No cancel notification from them in my inbox = I'll turn up.

A strange co-incidence was i didn't untick the insurance box, so I coughed up $12 by mistake to pay for insurance for this flight. Perhaps i'm becoming a fortune teller ;)

Only problem with that is that there's only one flight that isn't sold out (JQ517) that gets me to Melbourne in time to turn around and come home. I'm guessing that if they cancel the SYD->MEL JQ35 service then this flight is going to fill up pretty quickly.

Considering this:

"A further update will be provided on Saturday 29 January at 12 noon AEDT."

I would be on the phone and arranging alternate flights now, the only reason I would say they are not canceling the flights tomorrow yet is because they are busy solving today's problems!

Worst case is most of just go to the J lounge and kick on there.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the JQ flight. The lack of F lounge would suck, but we'll all get (back) to MEL :)

There are only 6 economy seats available for purchase on JQ35 Syd-Mel tomorrow whereas there are more than 30 seats available for the Mel-Dps sector, suggesting that a lot of the passengers on tomorrow's JQ35 Syd-Mel are domestic passengers (and this was my experience when I caught JQ35 in Dec)....so fingers crossed that JQ35 between Syd and Mel operates as scheduled tomorrow.

J* domestic flights leave from Syd T2....no J lounge there, only the basic QC - a far cry from the QF F lounge!

The Jetstar website lists JQ 35 today from Sydney to Melbourne of having departed successfully, 6 minutes early in fact, with an arrival in Melbourne scheduled for 16:43. The Melbourne airport website lists JQ35 of having landed early at 16:21, and I would confirm it left Sydney but the website is playing up big time for me.

So if todays service was cancelled, it still flew, and I’d hope that means it’ll fly tomorrow too.
