Unoffical Wake for WP Anytime Access, Jan 29 2011

....lounge may not be closed, but there is certainly some precedent to denying access.
Slightly different case secenario as the Plats that day were not actually flying (in fact, they were all incorrectly denied access IMHO as I was there that day)....this time the Plats are flying...and you need to be flying to get past immigration.

My concern is the guesting policy may be declined - if I was Qantas, I would do this... We are publicly telling Qantas we intend to wreak havoc on the F lounge as well as some other lounges - if any of us owned these lounges, what would you do? Personally deny access to all guests unless proven as a partner.
Why would QF deny access? I'm not planning to wreak havoc in the lounge, and certainly did not refer to it as a "pi$$ up". As long as your guest is travelling with you, your guest has a valid reason to enter the lounge; no where in the rules does it say the guest has to be related to you. I guess if you were "wreaking havoc" in the lounge, then QF are quite within their rights to ask you to leave.

I would be ready for rejection if you are not a WP

Unless the access rules change between now and then, I can't see this happenning. Based on a quick count, I can't count more than 2 or 3 guests who are not Plat. Everyone else is a Platinum and travelling that day.

Me either. I definitely plan on making use of the facilities, but I'm not stupid enough to even suggest that I'd do anything worthy of having me thrown out/banned. Too much flying on the horizon to lose lounge access :o

The comment was about the precedent of using the access rules (capacity controls, orderly operation etc etc_ to prevent access, not about whether the scenario was the same.

Can't remember exactly the no. of FTers that day, but a figure of 30-40 comes to mind:mrgreen:...so I guess the lounge manager of the day invoked that rule...quite inappropriate as it was a Saturday early afternoon when the lounge was almost deserted.

I was supposed to be there that weekend as well, but alas, didn't make it.

My point is that guesting is a privilege that I am sure QF can easily revoke to those who are not entitled to be in there! Start reading from post #1 in this thread and come back and tell me that the undertone is not to be taking of the final any time access to its maximum and making it a pi$$ up.

As I said, if I was Qantas, I would be looking very close at this little mob, then based on "operational constraints" disallow partners - go use the J lounge instead.

Well i would dearly love to do an F lounge run, however I will be working at the Tennis over that time and the saturday night is the Womens final, so i may have to meet you guys in the city afterwards, should anyone want to kick on! having said that I may take the skybus out in the afternoon and have a few brews then head back to the tennis in the early evening!

I have booked:

28 Jan 2011 MEL/SYD JQ30 1150|1315

F Lounge - Guest 1

28 Jan 2011 SYD/CBR DJ654 1535|1630

QP Final T2 Final hoo roo - Guest 2 (or will join others if in T3)

29 Jan 2011 CBR/SYD DJ 637 0900|0950

QP Final CBR Final hoo roo - Guest (?)

29 Jan 2011 SYD/MEL JQ35 1515|1645

Any CBR residents want to catch up Friday night for a drink or two - because I'm self funding, I will be probably staying at Rydges to bash the 50% discount. Not sure lakeside or the one by parliament.

Will book Mr Skyring to pick me up and drop me back please!

Anytime access is all about using the J lounge when flying DJ though, as Jetstar technically falls under 'other' access. I was quite keen to use my new found Velocity Gold membership when flying the DJ flights, but I’m not taking advantage of the anytime rule by flying JQ to MEL and being guested into the F lounge, as far as I understand the rules that is.

Access for Jetstar passengers
Qantas Club members travelling with Jetstar* are welcome in any Qantas Club or QantasLink lounge. Simply show your boarding slip and Qantas Club card, or Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer card, at the lounge reception. You may also invite one guest who need not be travelling. If you are travelling without luggage you can check in for your Jetstar* flight in most Qantas Club lounges. When you fly Jetstar,* you won't be able to access partner, associated^ or oneworld airline lounges.

International First Lounge - Platinum
Must be travelling onwards that day on a Qantas, British Airways, Jetstar or oneworld flight number.#
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member.

¶ From 1 February 2011, to access Qantas Domestic or International lounges, Platinum members must be travelling the same day on a flight that shows Qantas (QF), a Jetstar Airline (Jetstar (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K) or Valuair (VF)) or a oneworld® flight number on your ticket. Other lounge access conditions apply. See Qantas Club Terms and Conditions.

I think I’ve selected the right bits there. I understand they could still intervene, but it wouldn’t be related to anytime lounge access, as the F component isn’t related to that.

Sam, experience has seen guesting entitlements withdrawn without notice as QF are entitled to do at times, this is what is being discussed, a la a past Ozfest.

I know of the incident, in relation to anytime access primarily and a large group of FTers, however anytime access doesn’t cover the JQ-F lounge part of the (for lack of a better word) Do, and hasn’t covered F lounge access for a few years (I can’t recall when serfty said they removed F anytime access).

QF wouldn't dare shoot themselves in the foot with a bazooka by changing policy that day.

On a more interesting note.. Mrs TTR booked me onto QF flights as a surprise for my birthday.

So now I've got an 8am with both QF and DJ (both restrictive fares), and she booked another J* and QF flight home. J* was easy to get refunded as I technically had 2 seats but the rest are proving headaches with DJ acting like Tiger CS.

Fun days.

Qantas can stop guests at anytime if the lounge manager deems it so, the Ozfest example is of that right, if they feel the lounge is too busy they will change the rules, that's the point!

That wasn’t the gist of my reply though. The gist was that we were abusing anytime lounge access, and we’re not.

I would think that entering separately instead of as a large group might be a wise idea on the day.

My point. Regardless of what the rule book says, if the lounge manager says no, the answer will be no - final.

JQ checkin may well do that for you anyway

Ugh, don’t remind me.

Question, has anyone bought StarClass, and to those that just bought the cheapest fare, did you pre-purchase and select seats, or are you at the mercy of the checkin agents?

Personally I couldn’t be bothered paying extra.

I believe *C and JF passengers can allocate at time of booking for no charge.
