Actually most of Air China's J hard product looks pretty decent.
I have flown them in J on A330 from Shanghai to Sydney in July, it was OK but nothing flash, fully flat but food was not that great and their J blankets are plain ridiculous, I'm only 5'10" but in only covered me up to mid-chest...I know the Chinese are not the tallest in the world but that short...
I'm a bit worried about their J from PEK to SVO and back, it;s on a B777 but I'm not sure which one, if it's a refurbished 777-200 or the new 700-300ER, it's fine then as it's a fully flat bed but if it's an old B777-200 then it's only a recliner, not that great for a 8.5 night flight

their seat maps are now showing the 777-200 is also full lie flat. the old F/J/Y configuration seems to have gone! Please let us know if this is the case after you select your seats today :)

well well did Air China have bad news for me...it's their 3 class config that I will have to endure, they must've dumped it on their less prestigeous routes like Moscow:mrgreen: so it's the old 145 degree recliner J seat for me on PEK-SV-PEK unless a miracle happens and the metal gets swapped for the newer refurbished B700-200:(

It's weird though cos KVS shows the seatmap as 2 class...but the Air China website is selling F...so I guess you're out of luck.

Another MEL-BKK-CAN-SIN-MEL trip booked.. and another one not for me.

Leaving this Sunday, this is probably the 6th trip in the past 6 months booked like this.

The best bit? I'm actually getting email confirmations now!

Yikes!!

The 45 degree recline would be a 'generous' estimation! i flew one of those once - the seat pitch is a tight 42' - so expect more 'premium economy' seating rather than business class.

Woooohoooo ... took advantage of the share option and made a booking for a trip to europe next year.

All on F except for the last 2 legs which are on J. 150K points + $295 for taxes and admin.

Only thing is, I didn't get TG confirmation number (will call them up this morning) and didn't get the SQ number either (anyone know if it is easy to get this from SQ just by supplying my name and flight number/date?)

Thank you all for your hard work and contributions on this website! :)

USDM no longer provides TG PNRs. SQ IIRC always had to call SQ for.

Both airlines can retrieve your booking with name and flight details.

Folks

Lost my USDM virginity today!

Did a short trip only - very simple route so "yield" is very low, please ignore that.

Voucher-assisted (QF codeshare) SYD SGN then I will give up the return trip in VN Y.

Instead, I had a splurge going for SGN BKK (stopover) SYD on TG J

90,000 miles + $100 odd - there was no F on that day, only 2 days later !

I fully understand it has a lower yield compared to what I have seen here but .... have to get back to work !

Afterwards, I called up the 24-hr TG contact centre in Thailand selecting seats and requested the booking ref numbers.

Exit seats are reserved for airport control and cannot be requested !

I consider this to be my L-plated trip, folks.

So be gentle !

ps: is there anyway you could log in on TG and see / change your seats like QF MMB ? Yes, I could see it on EF but of course cannot "confirm" my flights {the only thing I have is the TG booking ref number and I feel "naked"}

EDIT:

I found the answer on how to check your TG flights

1) Go to Thai Airways - the main website, not the Australian version

2) Select "check booking" (see photo)

TG check booking.jpg

Voila, you could then see your confirmed flights - I feel much better, not "naked" anymore.

when is the return sector?

to me yield is not an important issue. I buy a ticket because I need to go somewhere - and the less sectors the better :)

(QF codeshare VN Y) SYD SGN

(TG J) SGN BKK (stopover) SYD

Literally, I gave away the VN Y return sector (SGN SYD) !

Is that so ?

Well, well....

If that's the case, what are my options ?

For the time being, I am just interested in going back home (SYD).

That is a weekend away - nothing more.

Could I then arrange for another trip ex SYD and still within that 90,000 miles ?

Any fee for adding that part ?

Would they allow it now ?

CSR didn't say anything with my proposed trip !

Didn't I say I have the L plate on ?

but USDM awards are return - so the 90k gets you there and back. When are you using the return leg?

when did you make the booking? If it's within 24 hours they may let you change it for free.

Otherwise it's $150 to change.

you have two options - you could cancel your outbound flight and fly both ways with USDM, or you can add another sector back to SGN at a later date (because you already have a stopover in BKK you can't open jaw to another asian port). Both of those are within the 90K.

personally I'd be looking for availability (perhaps on Sngapore airlines) to get you to SGN! (why fly economy at all when you can go business).

if you add a return (back to SGN) that is essentially locked in and can't be changed once outbound travel has started so look to start your journey in business as well.

L-plate or not - the difference between one way and return is a big difference!!

Thank you, MEL_Traveller

It was done this morning so I will call them after dinner.

Wow, this was really L plate stuff for a QF WP

Will get the QF credit for something else, I guess

Many sincere thanks

Will report back tonight !!!

be prepared for a change fee - but even so - small price to pay as effectively you're losing half a business class ticket.

I would try and stick with SQ if you can on the outbound, much much better than TG (on board and in the lounges).

AS a QFFFer you're probably used to the high one way redemption levels.
