Hi all,

Managed to book the old man:

LHR-MUC-BKK-MEL on the only J BKK-MEL flight for that week (he wanted very specific dates)

And

MEL-BKK-CDG (-LHR he's buying separately)

Most are 777-200's, BKK-CDG is A380 all in J. Limited F availability, wasn't worth it for only 2 legs, given BKK-MEL is a two class cabin.

He's stoked. 120k miles and something like ~$400 in taxes because he had to leave out of LHR.

Thanks for all the help gang!

$150 to fly first class each way with buggy pick-ups? Close call! :)

Congratulations! Well done. Great itinerary and good to avoid SQ given the dramas around availability that arose today.

The A380 is very comfortable - ring TG on Monday to select seats. I recommend an A or K 'window window' seat on the A380 - very private. Avoid 11 and 25 D and G like the plague.

I am a big, big fan of the daytime BKK-MEL flight - it's one of the best flights I have ever had and I think the 777-200 J cabin is fantastic for daytime flights.

Please let us know what he thinks!

Ha! Yeah but F would have involved waiting in Bangkok for 10 hours, and getting him back to London at night. This way he gets back by 9, and can be in the office ASAP (he works at Heathrow).

Also those 30k miles are being put towards a dash across the pond for NYE in NY for 2014. I'll be arriving in F, if I can convince the fiancee that a greater travel time is worth it if you fly F instead of J. I don't imagine that'll be hard!

Woah cheers for the inside info. Will pass it along. He's pretty excited. We normally fly QF sub-load, so having confirmed seats is an oddity!

Will report back. Father is definitely the right type of person to compile a trip report too - not like my mother, who flew SQ in J through a redemption - last minute, no QF availability, and thought it was a worse product than QF J. She's been spoiled rotten, though!

Thanks again gents, much obliged.

Hi smit0847,

we will also enjoy Thai's A380 next year and it seems as if you had experience regarding this aircraft. It appears as if the E/F seats are ideal for a couple and we are currently booked on 26 E/F, which is in the mini-cabin of three rows at the rear of J. Do you, or do other members, have experience with this mini-cabin? Rows 12, 17 and 23 are also available at this stage and I would greatly appreciate input if these are "better" seats.

Thanks, guys!

I convinced the lady that the massages were worth flying TG F when we did Europe last year. She asked me the other day why we aren't flying TG F to GUM....

We had originally booked 26 EF but due to the nightmare that is transiting CDG without an onwards boarding pass (OU could not provide us with a TG boarding pass in ZAG and there are no *A transit desks at CDG) by the time we got our boarding passes we were allocated 12 EF. It was great - the 'honeymoon' seats are very close and private and ideal for a couple. I don't think 26 EF would necessarily be that much better being in a mini-cabin - you may miss your first choice of main if you are seated towards the back. Row 17 would also be fine.

In for a penny....in for a pound....
Getting to a combined 1.3 million AA points in just over a year using two accounts was not what I was thinking when I joined my two sons into US Air Dividend Miles.
I have only been able to get 60,000 miles annually thru AA as they are hard and fast on that limit.

1.3 million! Whew! Someone's bankrolling quite a bit! :)

Hope there is no devaluation soon, but then again even if one is forthcoming, I guess that's the game, and having more points during a devaluation (even around 1 million) is certainly better than having less points.

I think it'll be amazing and depressing at the same time to see how fast you can burn down a million points. :p A few F Explorers coming up?

I wouldn't mind doing this leg but cannot find any avail in J for May, tried various months and they are all showing economy (awardtravelr)

I'm using the ANA tool, and whilst it isn't available every day, the availability in J is pretty good! In both directions.

For 1 pax it's pretty easy and good availability. For 2 pax, it's considerably more difficult but quite ample.

Thanks anat01, I'll go back to using ANA tool, cheers

ICN-PEK-BKK-BNE first leg AC J, rest TG F then J.

not that it really bothers me but does anyone know will I have access to f lounge in BKK on the way back considering I am arriving TG F then connecting to TG J on a sector that doesn't have F class?

Yes you will have access to the F lounge if coming off F and connecting with a 2 class J service.
