Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

Got the NSW Health text today… 2nd jab was 21st Jul. Booked in for our boosters of the Moderna variety tomorrow.

Cheers,
Matt.

Many of you seemed to have picked Moderna for the booster.

I had 2 x Pfizer and now booked for the Pfizer booster.

Been reading a few articles and the conclusion seems to be that having a Moderna booster gives a bit more antibodies. However one doctor mentioned that if you've already had 2 x Pfizer and the side effects weren't too bad, why would you introduce a different vaccine for negligible benefit.

Maybe you can line up a few super-spreader functions to attend. 🤔
Well perhaps I should've said most convenient!
But your can test positive for covid after original infection for upto 90 days (so I read) so you could test positive on a pre-departure test. That would be a bummer!

Tough call for you to wait extra couple months.
Yes that's true but with medical documentation of previous infection that should not present any problems.

I don't view it as a tough call really, in so far as I'm just holding on to see what happens with overseas travel. I feel the chances of me going on holidays outside Australia are pretty much zero in March.

Good points.
Don't think can go too wrong with any approved booster.

Really?
You think things will change for the worse by March for O/S travel?
I wouldn't have thought so, but predicting the future on this is gutsy.

I do not think there will be anything to stop me but it's finding somewhere to go that isn't going to be full of restrictions and/or covid...Europe and UK were my destinations but that's looking pretty shaky...

But until I know for sure I'll hold off on a booster. The only place I'm expose is at work and everyone is tested every day so I'm pretty comfortable for now. NSW in early Jan is probably the most likely place I would pick anything up.

Sorry didn't mean for this to veer too far off topic.

Interestingly got a text from NSW Health today (1 and 2 done at vax hub) telling me I could now get my booster as I was at 5 months. Text is 12 days early…
A lot of people got the text - some not yet 5 months, some well past 5 months, some already got the booster. It seems to be a good 'spam' to those who got the first two doses at a State facility.

Its a case of NSW Health not talking with the LHDs. I got a message from SLHD reminding me of my appointment, within minutes of the NSW Health SPAM.

Yes, my wife felt fine after her vacc for the rest of the day.

It was during the night and the next morning that she felt awful.
My husband was the same. Had the Pfizer Friday, felt a bit off Saturday and unwell with muscle pain, chills and fever that last about 18 hours. All good after Panadol.

No major reason for us; and would have been happy to go with Pz if it was the earlier/available option, but we'd read from a few sources and studies about the Pz+Sv combination appearing as [potentially] more effective against Omicron infection, and with both shots available at the time we needed our booking, we just went for Moderna.

We had no side effects with Pz (either shot), and we figured as both are the same type of vaccine, the differences in terms of side effects on the smaller booster dose would most likely be negligible.

Just back from the pharmac_ a little while ago, actually - 5G signal strength back to 5 bars for a while :)
Didn't feel the jab (thanks, nurse!), no site soreness, and no side effects to speak of at this early point.

Cheers,
Matt.

Had my Pfizer booster yesterday. First two were both Pfizer and had no side effects whatsoever. This time a sore arm overnight during sleep when I rolled on that side but nothing over the top.

Booster done and dusted, i was 30 mins early but was waved straight in and left 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment time. Didn't even feel the needle go in, given a free hand sanitiser "gift" on the way out.

My only complaint is that they were making everyone wear a surgical mask, i explained that my 3m N95 was superior so i wouldn't be downgrading to a less safe option (surgical masks gape at sides, never fit my face so basically pointless, not to mention much harder to breathe through), quick word with supervisor who agreed with me and in i went. Noting that once I got inside every other health worker was also wearing a N95.

The booster was a full Pfizer dose.

My wife and and I both had our Moderna Boosters today. 5 hours later and no symptoms yet.

We were slightly early due date wise to as ATAGI is allowing people not due till 3rd Jan being able to get their booster now. Plus as we will be away on our due date with no local bookings on our scheduled date for at least a week or two afterwards near our holiday destination it made sense to get it done today.

Moreso as Omicron in Vic now seems to on the rise after up until the last day or so being quite low. So we will should be at optimum protection before we bump into an infectious person.

We were driving back from the Murray River yesterday after our 4th holiday since lockdown finished, and it was very noticeable that there were a lot of cars, caravans etc heading towards Melbourne with NSW registration plates. Whereas when we took the same route home in early Nov NSW plates were rare once you left the border zone. So given the increased mixing with NSW now it is hardly a surprise to see Omicron now gaining momentum in Victoria.

We used a GP Clinic for our two AZ doses. In and out with no waiting. We used a pharmacist today only 800m from our house and like the GP Clinic used for our AZ doses you only had to arrive 5 minutes prior to your slot.

We were glad we had pre-booked, rather than arrive as a walk in as the pharmacists told several arrivals during our post vaccination observation period that Moderna was now fully booked out till after Christmas at their pharmac_, but that Pfizer was freely available as a pre-booking and for some walk-ins each day.

Reporting back to say that we weren’t completely free of side effects, after all… my wife developed a very sore spot at the site of the injection, about 4-6 hours after the jab. That increased to affect much of her arm, to the point she could barely lift it, or cope with people touching or poking and slapping it (it wasn’t me, I swear!…). She also had what she felt were heart palpitations during the night, saying it felt like her heart was beating out of her chest, but thankfully still rested well, and after about 36 hours from the shot, she was back to [as] normal [as she gets].

I also had the soreness at the injection site and it was really quite tender, though didn’t effect the whole arm, or function. Soreness for me was there about 12 hours, I’d say.

Whatever it was; it was worth it.

Cheers,
Matt.

Well almost up to 24 hours now from my wife and I being boosted with Moderna.

My wife has absolutely no symptoms.

My injection site is not sore, but feels slightly tight. Otherwise no symptoms.

3 days on and no symptoms at all now after the Moderna Booster.

My wife late on the second day like me had slight tightness (swelling?) at the injection site.
